Trainee Site Manager (Reports to the Site Operations Manager)
Job Scope
To operate and supervise/manage civil and electrical sub-contractors and individual crews to ensure that the site construction is done to client specification and in accordance with GSS SHEQ standards. Support to members of the site team and ensure work is done correctly and safely at all times along with liaising with the GSS Site Manager/Project Managers for associated projects.
Needs to Have
* Min 5-10 years’ experience in a similar role
* All relevant H&S accreditation and certification (Safety Passport, SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safety)
* Full Drivers Licence
* Experience in managing teams in a fast paced and process driven environment
* IT proficiency- MS Office
* Appropriate authorisations need for different clients (SPEN/NG)
Roles/Responsibilities
* Responsible for liaising with any consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and coordinating and supervising the general workforce involved in the project.
* Responsible for liaising with the local authority (where appropriate to the project) to ensure compliance with local construction regulations and by-laws.
* Responsible for liaising with clients and their representatives (architects, engineers and surveyors), including attending regular meetings to keep them informed of progress.
* Efficiently procure plant, materials and manpower to enable projects to be progressed in accordance with programme.
* Responsible for ensuring that all relevant site documentation and client paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely fashion i.e. Checking and preparing site reports.
* Ensure that site is correctly cordoned off and all safety protocols adhered to.
* Ensure emergency plans are in place for all activities on site and take full responsibility in the event of an emergency.
* Ensure a stocked first aid kit is kept on site at all times and the site is equipped with appropriate fire precautions.
* Record and report all accidents and near misses and submit to SHEQ Manager in a timely fashion.
* Ensure inspection of materials is carried out (either client supplied or purchased for purpose of the site construction) to ensure that all materials are to specification and in good order and to promptly report any faults or irregularities to the Project Manager.
* Ensure a timely register of any change and claims of the project.
* Ensure that all site teams and subcontractors are compliant with instructions regarding PPE, use of safety equipment and correct usage of tools and equipment and follow safe working practices and site security protocols.
* Have an updated Construction Health and Safety Plan available on site at all times and where additional hazards are identified draw up a risk assessment and complete where necessary a method statement to cover relevant activity.
* Assess and minimise risk.
* Ensure that all relevant H&S paperwork is on site and available for audit, as required.
* Report any damage to company vehicles, tools or equipment to SHEQ & Project Manager.
* Responsible for the day to day implementation of the SHEQ systems on all GSS sites.
* Be aware of and monitor the implementation of the Company’s Safety Statement and relevant legislative regulations.
* Escalate any breaches of H&S to the SHEQ and Project Manager.
* To share his/her experience in the on-going development of safe and best practice installation methods where identified.
* Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations at all times. Prepare and carry out risk assessments and method statements.
* As well as managing site you will be required to have a hands-on approach to installation both at site and preparing equipment ready for factory acceptance testing.
* Ensuring safety inspections are carried out in line with GSS requirements.
* Maintaining quality control procedures.
* Finding ways to prevent problems and to solve any that may arise.
* Writing reports and keeping on top of paperwork.
* Your location for work can be anywhere in the UK, however, when not on site you will be required to help out in the unit in Boldon to build up test rigs / wire SPAR plug and sockets etc.
* You may be required to assist in the construction of minor sub racks (SPAR) and to perform wiring modifications where needed.

* Report any accidents, incidents, near misses or safety observations ASAP.
