Job overview
The work, as a phlebotomist, involves taking blood samples from patients who are currently being treated on our wards and outpatient department as well as those in other local hospitals i.e. Farnham and Aldershot. Properly taken blood samples are vital in helping our clinicians to effectively diagnose and treat the medical conditions in the patients that they see.
We are currently looking for people, perhaps like yourself, who would be interested in a role where you would be trained and supported right from the start, helping to provide the best possible care and treatment for our patients.
Your main base will be Frimley Park Hospital, Aldershot Centre for Health or Farnham Hospital but you may be required to train at any of our other BSPS sites.
These include:
1. Ashford Hospital (Middlesex TW15 3AA)
2. St Peters (Chertsey KT16 0PZ)
3. Royal Surrey County Hospital (Guildford GU2 7XX)
4. Wexham Park Hospital (Slough SL2 4HL)
5. Royal Berkshire Hospital (Reading RG1 5AN)
Main duties of the job
Your role will be to take blood samples as part of our busy and friendly team. You will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good manual dexterity, the ability to remain calm under pressure and be able to work independently and flexibly when necessary.
The team covers a variety of shift times; therefore, flexibility is key as you will be required to cover other sites where services are provided. The operating times of the department are:
07:00 – 19:00 Monday – Friday (ward and OPD areas).
A bank holiday service is provided to the wards and covered by the team on a rotational basis.
This post is an entry-level Band 2. After completion of training and achieving specific competencies/criteria, there is the opportunity to progress to a Band 3 post.
If this sounds interesting and you would like more information and like to talk to someone about the role, please contact Louise Boaler at 0300 6139440 (between 07:00 – 15:00 Monday to Friday).
Please be aware that during the interview you will be required to complete a short written test.
