Job Description
An exciting opportunity to work in close partnership with the owners of a Rural Estate to develop and grow a rural portfolio of commercial enterprises including farming, retail/cafe, woodlands, land development and renewable energy. The individual will develop and implement a new strategic plan to grow the existing operations whilst introducing innovative income streams aimed at safeguarding its long-term future.
THE POSITION
Promote joined up thinking of the Estate’s operations. Support the senior leadership team, including the executive members of the family in their roles as department heads.
Monitor checks and balances, financial and legal, to ensure the estate is compliant in all areas.
Work closely with each business unit to optimise performance. Identify compelling new opportunities in consultation with partners, whilst preserving the Estate’s character and history. Existing businesses include property letting, farming (contract farming) a broiler unit, farm shop/cafe/retail, woodlands as well as a number of emerging development opportunities.
Adhere to best statutory and financial practices whilst developing the Estate’s long-term business plan. Manage financial budgeting, appraisal, analysis and reporting across the Estate’s structure of entities. Closely participate in the management of major projects and schemes.
Maintain good working relationships with the local and wider community. Manage external stakeholders including commercial partners, professional agents and local authority representatives.
The position is offered as a full time role employed directly by the Estate although part time/flexibility may be considered for the right candidate. Benefits including professional subscription fees and CPD will be included.
THE CANDIDATE
Demonstrate relevant experience and have proven financial, commercial and strategic acumen.
Whilst a track record in the rural sector is not necessary, the individual must have an empathy for the countryside and appreciate the challenges and opportunities currently facing rural, land-based businesses.
Level-headed, focused, a calm demeanour with a meticulous attention to detail. Committed team player with excellent communication skills.
Strong leadership and mentoring qualities, as well as possessing the self-awareness and humility to carefully negotiate successful outcomes for key stakeholders.
