People Manager/ HR Manager - Maternity cover
We’re looking for a skilled people leader to join us for 12 months, helping to shape a positive workplace culture, support employee development, and drive engagement.
You’ll be a trusted partner for employees and managers, get fully immersed in employee relations & wellbeing, drive process improvements, oversee key moments in the employee lifecycle & collaborate with finance to process payroll. In fact, there’s not much you won’t be able to get stuck into.

Please note this role will be located in Northampton with the option of 1 day working from home per week.

What you’ll be doing…
You’ll be the ‘go to’ person for employees and managers, providing support. You’ll partner and work closely with our managers, offering coaching and advice and fostering strong relationships.
You’ll play a key part in supporting our people by managing ER matters, this includes handling absence, disciplinaries, grievances and both short and long term sickness cases.
Your role will also include:
* Working alongside senior leadership and department heads to align HR strategies with business objectives
* Taking the lead on probation processes, working closely with managers to ensure new team members have a smooth and supportive start.
* Keeping HR data sharp by regularly tracking key metrics, spotting trends and discrepancies, and implementing targeted improvements
* Continuously updating our HR processes and policies in line with employment law, ensuring they reflect and support our culture.
* Conducting welfare meetings, you’ll provide hands-on support for employee wellbeing. Handling ill-health capability and performance improvement cases.
* Ensuring cultural alignment with our HR processes and policies and keep these up to date with employment law.
* Managing maternity and paternity, risk assessments and KIT days
* Taking ownership of the leavers process
* Maintaining our People System (CIPHR) and Time & Attendance system (Shopworks)
* Collaborate with finance on monthly payroll processing, responding to payroll queries

* You bring solid experience in HR advisory or management roles, combined with genuine empathy and kindness
* You’re a collaborative, adaptable professional who consistently puts people at the heart of your role
* You have robust knowledge of employment law, including TUPE and HR best practices, and you apply this expertise with fairness and compassion.
* You connect effortlessly with people at all levels, using clear, friendly communication—and a good sense of humour goes a long way.
* You have a forward-thinking mindset, constantly seeking ways to improve processes and enhance our work environment in meaningful, human-centred ways.
