Patents – Knowledge Lawyer – 6 month FTC
We are currently working with a global law firm that is looking to recruit a Patent Knowledge Lawyer for their London office, on a 6 month FTC. The successful individual will form part of the market leading Life Sciences team in London, and can anticipate to spend at least 3 days a week in the London office.
The Life Sciences team is regarded as a market leader in London, providing comprehensive legal services to pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, research tool and diagnostic companies. The team advises clients on the whole product life cycle, from discovery and development onwards. The Patents Knowledge Lawyer role will sit within the non-contentious Patents team, which is part of the wider Life Sciences team, and work closely with Lawyers and Partners.
The role is an opportunity to work as an integral part of the non-contentious patents team and to create a set of precedent documents, which are vital to the team’s overall growth strategy.
This is a role focused on contract drafting and annotation.
Role responsibilities will include:
* Creating a set of life sciences licensing and collaboration precedent documents
* Creating a collection of related example documents and clauses for the non-contentious patents team
* Distilling the team’s knowledge into annotations to reflect market practice
* Standardising an existing extensive set of non-licensing life sciences precedents
* Creating agreements for collaborative R&D, master services agreements, clinical trials, product manufacturing and supply, distribution and marketing, licensing and marketing and the distribution of medical devices and pharmaceuticals
* Providing training on new law affecting the document suite and on the documents themselves
This role will require a good working knowledge of IP and specifically patents and know-how, as well as understanding the structures that are typical in life sciences collaboration transactions.
Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:
* Qualification as a solicitor with upwards of 6 years’ PQE
* Experience in a well-regarded life sciences team
* IP and life sciences background, and non-contentious commercial deal experience
* An awareness of data privacy and competition law issues
* Experience in the non-contentious life sciences sector, covering a range of clients within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and med-tech industries
* Proven experience of advising, drafting and reviewing contracts and agreements
* Experience of complex licensing deals
Prior experience as a knowledge Lawyer would be beneficial, but applications from individuals without this experience, but strong experience in the above points, are welcome.
