GRADUATE JOB DESCRIPTION
(ONE YEARS MINIMUM EXPERIENCE IN INDUSTRY)
We are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Geotechnical/Geo-environmental Engineer to join our team here in Chester.
Coopers are a one office consultancy based in Chester working predominantly within the Northwest of England and Wales. We are a multi-disciplinary team working with land owners and developers in taking sites from tender to occupation. Examples of developments include mills, collieries, industrial brownfield sites and greenfield sites.
Main Duties
• Site walkovers
• Fieldwork supervision of site investigations including soil and rock logging
• Monitoring of ground gas installations using GA5000
• Undertake validation of ground gas membranes and inert cover on active development sites
• Infiltration testing
• Appropriate soil and water sampling for geotechnical and contaminated land assessment
• Production of validation reports for inert cover and gas membrane inspections
• Undertaking project management duties including preparing health and safety documentation before and during any site works
• Development of project management skills in order to work towards the responsibility of planning, supervision and programming of site investigations projects
Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience
• Completed at least a bachelor’s degree in geology, applied geology, engineering geology or a geo-environmental subject
• Previous experience with a Site Investigation contractor or Geo-environmental Consultant
• Strong knowledge of Quaternary deposits and processes (main stratum to be encountered)
• Ability to apply principles of geology when assessing coal mining, contaminated land and geotechnical appraisals
• Knowledgeable in various site investigation techniques and ability to apply appropriate in situ geotechnical testing
• Awareness of geotechnical principals
• Awareness of geo-environmental principals
• Some awareness of relevant ground investigation specifications, procedures, techniques and British Standards
• Computer literate, including competency in using Microsoft Office programs
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• Ability to manage themselves efficiently and be spatially aware within an office situation as well as on site
• A valid UK driving licence is essential
We will provide in house training, with successful candidates undertaking a course for soil descriptions as well as CSCS training.
This position will be a mix of site and office based work, a company vehicle will be provided for site work.
The successful applicant will work alongside the existing members of the team based at our Chester Business Park office, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
