An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the School Nurse team in Woking. The successful candidate will be a registered nurse with previous nursing experience, ideally in a School Nurse team, although this is not essential as professional development will be offered to the right candidate. You will, however, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be a team player, and have a real enthusiasm for making a difference to future generations of children and their families.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The post holder will be a member of the 0-19 public health team delivering a service for children, young people and their families. Supported by the SCPHN school nurse, the post holder will participate in delivering a universal core service, and provide targeted interventions, to address health inequalities, where necessary referring to specialist services. This role will also include safeguarding responsibilities, immunisations, mentorship of students and staff appraisals.
Principal duties to include:
1. Undertake duties as allocated by the SCPHN School Nurse.
2. Build and develop good working relationships with named schools and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
3. Make contact with children, young people (CYP) and their families in a variety of community settings schools, home, children centres, youth clubs
4. Assist in the preparation, planning and delivery of the school based childhood immunisation programme in accordance with local policies and procedures following appropriate immunisation training
5. Deliver planned programmes of health promotion to CYP either through one to one contact, group work or through delivery of school based PSHE lessons
6. Assist in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme 5-19
7. Undertake young peoples Drop In clinic in named secondary school
8. Provide enuresis advice and continence assessments
9. Identify and support CYP through health needs assessments who have unmet health needs, provide support and targeted interventions and where necessary refer to specialist services
10. Following specific training be part of the CHAT HEALTH school nurse text advice service
11. Take appropriate action in cases of suspected or actual child abuse, working within Surrey safeguarding childrens code of practice and procedures.
12. Attend child protection conferences/core groups as required and participate in safeguarding supervision
13. Undertake health needs assessments for children who are looked after
14. Assist in research and service audits
15. Supervise junior member of the 0-19 team as directed by the SCPHN SN undertake junior staff PDR appraisals and direct line management.
16. Take an active part in clinical supervision
17. Participate in meetings as appropriate
18. Be prepared to be flexible within contracted hours
19. In accordance with the needs of the service, undertake other duties as required

Experience
Essential
20. Evidence of personal development and acquisition of transferable skills relevant to the job description.
21. Understanding of current issues affecting the NHS and the CYP public health agenda.
22. Previous experience of working as part of a team.
23. Understanding of clinical governance with some previous experience of undertaking audits.
24. Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams.
Desirable
25. Relevant experience of working with children, young people and families.
26. Completion of safeguarding modules.
27. Completion of PSHE certificate.
28. Previous sexual health training/experience.
29. Immunisation training and/or experience.
