Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgeon

Full-time Substantive Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns surgeon with main responsibilities for Burns plastics surgery for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The main focus of this post is adult and paediatric burns surgery, with additional areas of responsibility in support of lower limb trauma services and general plastic surgery. The post requires microvascular capabilities and a wide and varied reconstructive skills set to cater for the demands of other surgical specialties. The candidate will need to have an interest in colorectal, spinal and neurosurgical reconstruction as well as managing complex wounds.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join an established burns team, including three other Consultants, within the Burns Units (Adult at NUH City Campus and paediatrics at NUH Queens Medical Centre) with responsibility for delivery of the acute and reconstructive burns service. Additional commitment to Consultant-level support of the day-to-day emergency surgery cover will be expected. Other Consultant cross-cover will be required on a flexible basis. The 10 PA post will be based at Nottingham City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre and join a one in 13 on-call rota covering all general plastic surgery emergencies, including burns. The department presently has 20 Consultants and one Associate Specialist. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional education (CPD) as laid down by the surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial commitment for these activities. The Trust has the required arrangements in place to ensure all surgeons have annual appraisals with a trained appraiser and supports surgeons going through the revalidation process. A consultant mentor will be nominated to provide support for the first 12 months of the appointment and will be available for support in and out of hours as required.

Person Specification
Professional Registration
* Full GMC
* Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register
* CCT expected within 6 months of interview date
Professional Qualifications/Development
* FRCS (Plast) or equivalent
* Higher professional degree in Perineal / Pelvic floor reconstruction experience.
Clinical skills and experience
* Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description.
* Experience of dealing with Children Safeguarding cases.
* Experience in Multidisciplinary team settings.
* Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals.
* Experience with innovative burn management technologies.
Teaching, Audit, Research
* Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
* Able to teach and support junior staff effectively.
* Original Research Publications & Presentations.
* Higher teaching degree or qualification or training.
