The role of a SACT (systemic anti-cancer therapies) nurse is to provide care for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy or one of the new treatments (e.g. immunotherapies) and is a challenging and rewarding field of nursing.
We in the Oxford Cancer & Haematology Day Treatment Unit (DTU) and the Brodey Centre in Banbury are looking to recruit nurses who are kind, committed, motivated and forward thinking to complement our team to deliver the best care for patients receiving these treatments. The units are open Monday - Friday: 8am-7pm and Saturday: 8am-4pm. Cross site working between Oxford and Banbury will be expected as needed, so a full UK driving licence and access to a car is essential. The posts are full time: 37.5hrs/week.

Main duties of the job
Training and support to progress through competency learning packages for cannulation & venepuncture and care of patients with central venous access devices, along with obtaining a qualification in 'Caring for a Patient Receiving Chemotherapy' is provided.
Post registration experience and the ability to communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team is essential. Oncology or haematology experience is desirable but not essential.
Job responsibilities
* Maintain and develop general and specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the clinical area.
* Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
* Accurately document and report to other members of the nursing team, multi-disciplinary team and family/carers regarding the care given to patients, and communicating changes as they occur.
* Respond to emergency situations with composure, maintaining patient safety and seeking immediate support, and supporting the patient, family/carers and other staff as required.
* Identify and discuss patient needs with the team/staff, patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team. Be able to plan own workload.
* Demonstrate a problem solving approach to effectively execute planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised plans of care based on a person centred model of care.
* Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events.
* Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
Person Specification
Education/Training
* Registered nurse (part 1, 8, 12 or 15 of register depending on area of practice).
* UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post.
* Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice.
Clinical Practice
* Articulate and knowledgeable of skills needed to deliver a high standard of care in the area of practice.
* Able to document observations, results, decisions and actions etc. effectively in patient's notes and communicate these effectively to appropriate members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Competent to administer intravenous medicines.
Leadership and Management
* Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with their line manager.
* Acts as a role model and is able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
* Previous experience in the relevant specialty.
