The Asset Management team forms part of the Housing and Regeneration Directorate in Tower Hamlets Council. The team is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Estate Management Officer with excellent customer facing skills, financial awareness and a good understanding of property management / maintenance.
The team manages the council’s commercial portfolio, with over 200 retail units across the borough from Whitechapel to Bow. The Estate Management Officer provides a vital support function on a variety of property types including shops, community properties, operational sites and land. The function covers applications for assignments, checking compliance, dealing with vacant property security, alterations, change of use, licences, and other related matters.
The post holder will also provide technical support and assistance including arranging works, regular inspections, measurement and preparation of plans and property information. Property records are to be kept up to date on completion of transactions or alterations. Site and property inspections, for both occupied and vacant properties, are required for a variety of purposes including checking boundaries, compliance with lease terms and checking occupation. The post holder will support the management surveyors and other members of the team to deliver any of the required services in line with the corporate asset management plan.
What type of person are we looking for?
1. Experience in all aspects of property management.
2. Understanding of maintenance and repairs issues.
3. Ability to deal with difficult situations.
4. Used to using own initiative and lone working.
5. Familiar with working in a confidential and sensitive setting.
6. A driving licence is essential.
7. A basic awareness of health and safety issues.
8. Able to climb stairs and ladders to access lofts, lift motor rooms and complete inspections.
9. Ability to prepare short written reports.
