Job summary Senior Health Care Assistants / Support Workers (SHCSWs) work as part of a team providing high quality and compassionate care to individuals. They will have the understanding and ability to deliver delegated care under the direction of their supervisor, and support the multidisciplinary team in the delivery of high quality care to enable individuals to achieve their person-centred goals. SHCSWs will carry out well-defined routine duties in accordance with the individual's care plan, promote independence and check on the individual's overall progress, comfort and wellbeing. When working as a lone worker they will act on own initiative to make a situation safe and report any concerns as required. They will prepare individuals for activities to be carried out by other members of the healthcare team, looking after them before, during and/or after those activities in line with their care/treatment plan. Main duties of the job The SHCSW will be able to work effectively as part of a team and will always act within the limits of their competence, knowing who to ask for help and support as required. SHCSWs will operate within agreed ways of working, following the relevant standards, policies and protocols used in their workplace including the Code of Conduct for Health Care Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England. The Registered Practitioner remains accountable for the appropriate and effective delegation of activities and must ensure that the SHCSW has the competency, confidence and expertise to carry out such activities. The SHCSW is accountable for their actions and in a situation where the SHCSW feels they do not have the necessary skills or ability then they must alert the Registered Practitioner immediately.
