We are looking for a Legal Counsel Sanctions in Compliance, based in London. Please note that the internal job title for this role will be - Compliance Governance Specialist - Economic Sanctions.
Your Team
At Allianz Commercial, our compliance department manages compliance programmes globally, staying abreast of external requirements and internal developments to identify and minimize compliance risks, protecting the interests of the company.
The Impact You Will Have
Reporting to the Head of the Sanctions Unit and part of the Global Compliance Team, as a Compliance Governance Specialist, you will analyse sanctions laws and regulations, provide support and guidance, perform Economic Sanctions assessments for business referrals, engage with Underwriting, Claims and other functions to address and manage relevant compliance aspects in support of business needs. You will drive constant process and training improvements and ensure proper and timely communication to the business. You will also develop standard reports and provide periodic reports to the sanctions team, L&C, and business, and support the sanctions team in various IT-driven requests.
Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
1. Perform Economic Sanctions assessment for business referrals and provide support and guidance to various business stakeholders.
2. Have a sound understanding of the sanctions requirements across business areas and improve the sanctions processes.
3. Closely track sanctions developments across the various applicable regimes and assess such developments for impact.
4. Prepare necessary management information reports on relevant sanctions referrals, trends and developments for the Board and internal stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
1. University degree in Law - preferably UK fully qualified lawyer
2. 4-5 years of work experience in economic sanctions or anti-financial crime (AFC)
3. Several years of experience in the insurance/reinsurance business
4. Strong expertise in legal analysis and assessment as well as in providing legal advice
5. Exposure to stakeholder management preferably in a global setup
6. Good understanding of internal controls system, processes and methodology
7. Ability to take initiative and resolve problems with a high degree of autonomy
8. Excellent interpersonal, strong communication and presentation skills, ideally with training experience
9. Solid ability to steer and manage topics/initiatives with a cross-functional view
10. Strong ability to work in a team and in an international environment
11. Familiarity with database workflow tools
12. Strong Microsoft Office and Excel skills
13. Fluent English language skills (both in spoken and written) are required
