About the role
We are recruiting for a Deputy Manager for our new branch children's home in Potter’s Bar. This is our 3 bedded home for children with Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties.
Qualifications and experience required
Candidates are expected to hold the Level 3 in Health & Social care or Residential Childcare & the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and management or a qualification that the registered provider considers to be the equivalent to the Level 5 Diploma. There may be an option for the successful candidate to work towards these qualifications alongside their role.
In the past 2 years the candidate should have at least 2 years’ experience in a position relevant to the residential care of children.
Purpose of Post
The post holder will report to the management of the home and alongside the Manager he/she will have some responsibility for residential staff within the home. He/she will support the management team to manage the resources within the home and provide positive living experience for the children and young people who are accommodated there. He/she will support the manager to undertake the responsibilities in the home under the Care Standards Act 2000, the Children’s Homes Quality Standards and the Children’s Home Regulations 2015.
The post holder will have some line management responsibilities for:

Duties & Responsibilities
• To promote the practice of working in partnership with young people, their families, other staff within other agencies, to meet the needs of young people.
• To support the Manager to provide operational management of the staff team and to deploy appropriate staff resources in order that key tasks are fulfilled.
• To ensure that sufficient back up resources are available in emergency/out of hour’s situations including participation in an out of hours 'On-Call' rota.
• To supervise and offer constructive feedback to staff and to be involved in the assessment and supervision of staff.
• To support the Manager to ensure the home is managed in a way that supports the views, wishes and feelings of the young people accommodated in the home.
• To contribute to policies and procedures that reflect the aims and objectives of the home and to develop systems for monitoring progress towards the achievement of such aims and objectives.
• To ensure that services are delivered according to the Statement of Purpose and Function for the home.
• To access the development needs of residents and to implement, review and monitor each young person’s Care Plan & Risk Assessments.
• To generate an open and supportive atmosphere within the home between staff members and between staff and residents, to enable the growth and development of both staff and residents.
• To ensure the home is physically safe and to provide a good quality environment for the children.
• To create and develop links between the community and the home to enable children to participate fully in the life of their community.
• To ensure children and staff are aware of all the procedures relating to complaints and concerns and how to initiate them.
• To safely support the management team to recruit, train and develop staff to meet the objectives of the home in accordance with agreed procedures.
• To support the management team to manage and operate budgets within the agreed guidelines for the home.
• To ensure the assessed needs of young people in the home are met on a day-to-day basis.
• To contribute effectively to each child’s placement plan review and Looked after Child Review.
• To ensure that the young person contributes as far as is feasible in the review process.
• To ensure that there is a comprehensive plan for young people preparing to leave care.
• To assist with the planning and organisation of staffing rota’s and holiday rotas to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained.
• To provide reflective supervision to residential staff.
• To contribute to monitoring and scheduling staff development and training.
• Assist the manager with the efficient upkeep of the building and maintenance of equipment, furnishings and fittings.
• To deputise for the Care Manager in their absence.
