Job overview
We are looking for a Housekeeper to work at our Leicester South Dialysis Unit working 30 hours per week. You will ensure the patient service and the clinical environment are managed and maintained to appropriate standards. You will need to be an excellent team player but also be able to use your own initiative as at times you will be working alone.
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure housekeeping and day-to-day management of the kitchen is maintained, including any utensils are clean and fit for use.
2. The refrigerator temperature is recorded daily.
3. Any consumable items are properly stored and within date.
4. Store room maintained clean and organised.
5. Keep the utility areas clean and tidy.
6. Monitor all water outlets and flush as required.
7. Maintain effective communication to all members of the team.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks to patients during tea round or as required.
2. Responsible on behalf of the Ward/Unit Manager for the correct care of ward mattresses and to assist the ward team with bed making.
3. Ensure housekeeping and day-to-day management of the kitchen is maintained in that: the area, including any utensils, is clean and fit for use; the refrigerator temperature is recorded daily; any consumable items are properly stored and within date; the ice/milk/drinks machines are cleaned and checked as per policy and guidelines at the hospital site.
4. Monitor the adequacy of linen deliveries, reporting defects or inadequate supplies to the Ward/Unit Manager or nurse in charge of shift.
5. Keep the sluice and utility areas tidy and bag soiled linen in accordance with Trust policy.
6. To act at all times in a responsible and safe manner while in the wards and encourage a warm and welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors.
7. Maintain a safe environment, audit and quality.
8. Promote and practice the highest standards of hygiene and the prevention and control of infection at all times.
9. Assist the team to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness of clinical-based medical equipment i.e. dressing trolleys, drip stands.
10. Ensure and monitor that repairs are reported and carried out as quickly as possible on any broken equipment.
11. Monitor the clinical areas state of cleanliness, tidiness and carry out any other minor housekeeping duties as required, i.e. remove rubbish and tidy bedside lockers and tables.
12. Undertake the timely cleaning of a patient’s bed space / bed / patient locker to assist in patient flow.
13. Assist in the undertaking of tasks as specified in the work schedule for the environment.
14. Participate in appropriate audits, i.e. clinical waste, family and friends under the direction of the Ward/Unit Manager or as delegated by the multi-disciplinary team.
15. Evaluate each water outlet within clinical area, flush if required and report to the Estates department via the electronic process.
16. Take responsibility for maintaining own and others’ health, safety and security and report to the Ward/Unit Manager any matters relating to safety or security.
17. Carry out duties in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1971.
18. Move and handle patients and goods in ways that promote the health of the patient and care team and self and are consistent with legislation.
19. Assist and maintain a safe and hazard-free area of work.
20. Adhere to Trust policies, procedures and guidelines and promote the compliance of others.
Person specification
Training and Qualifications
* Knowledge and previous experience in cleaning and/or working in a food environment.
* Good standard of written and spoken English.
* Experience of work in a hospital or care setting.
* Experience in customer care training or Relevant NVQ 2.
Skills
* Effective communication skills – verbal and non-verbal.
* Has food handling and hygiene training or willingness to undertake food handling/hygiene.
* Experience of participating in audits.
