As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking an experienced Principal Systems Engineer, with at least 5 years’ practical experience in designing and implementing synthetic environment technologies and solutions for customers, who can lead our regional technical team at the forefront of delivering successful deployment of our solutions. We are looking for an accomplished leader with a proven track record as a solution architect and in managing complex engineering projects and guiding technical teams through the systems engineering lifecycle. With people at the heart of your leadership, you will mentor and develop those around you to expand an engineering team of dynamic and highly-talented individuals that are empowered and equipped to thrive. The role will involve not only ensuring the seamless delivery and integration of our products, but also setting our strategic vision for the future. You will interact with both customers and industry partners, whilst supporting the activity of other PLEXSYS business units both in the UK and globally.
We’re looking for an individual with a strong engineering leadership background and the very best personal qualities, which may include:
* A relevant degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Computing or Mathematics.
* Minimum 5 years relevant experience in a technical leadership role.
* Minimum 5 years’ of demonstrable experience as a solutions architect.
* Minimum 15 years relevant experience in Defence modelling and simulation.
* Outstanding leadership qualities that balance the needs of team and task, centered around the needs of the individual.
* An intimate knowledge of simulation standards and protocols.
* Experience leading teams and delivering across the systems engineering lifecycle.
* A deep passion for information technology, maintaining awareness of technological advancements and their potential application in solutions.
* An extensive Systems Design Authority portfolio.
* Comprehensive understanding of complex systems architecture, particularly in virtual environments.
* The ability to communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
* Coordinate and prioritise the activity of the engineering team to support a range of business activity.
* Meticulous attention to detail when producing and reviewing technical documentation.
* Management and handling of support enquiries for fielded PLEXSYS products.
* Assist with PLEXSYS product demonstrations to potential customers and partners.
* Engage with stakeholders, project managers and senior technical staff to ensure customer and business needs are satisfied appropriately and problems are mitigated.
* Participates in software testing and is able to articulate discrepancies to customers, testers and software engineers by directing and participating in engineering trouble shooting, resolving with minimal service disruption.
* Ability to integrate PLEXSYS products with other customer simulation products and operational systems.
* Design networks to support distributed simulation activity and produce supporting diagrams and architectures.
* Demonstrate organizational, project leadership, decision-making, human relations and communication skills.
* Support the company's participation in trade shows, industry events, workshops and webinars.
* Previous experience working in the MOD or knowledge of MOD operations is desirable.
* Ability to travel nationally and internationally up to 50% of the time.
* Hold a UK Security Clearance of Secret or above.
Interest or broad understanding in some of the following areas may be beneficial, but the right candidate will have support and professional development opportunities they require to develop subject matter expertise and progress their career:
* Firm understanding of networking and the ability to identify computer hardware components.
* Familiar with other modelling and simulation systems.
* Synthetic environments and associated technologies including an understanding of how modelling and simulation applications interact.
* This may include games engines such as VBS4.
* Tactical environment simulation, including Computer Generated Forces (CGF), role-players and component models.
* Distributed simulation utilizing standards such as DIS, HLA and DDS or more broadly the DMaSC Modelling and Simulation Standards Profile (DMSP).
* Novel and emerging technologies, including commercial hardware and software and consumer devices, including mixed reality.
* Computer architectures and network design, including virtualization, IP communication and routing protocols.
* Concepts and principles underpinning Live, Virtual and Constructive systems for Training or Test and Evaluation.
