Band 3 Maternity Health Care Assistant

We are now recruiting to our team to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and effective maternity care experience for the women and babies who use our Maternity Service. Maternity Care Assistants are highly valued members of our team who contribute to providing the level of care we aspire to. We offer a 24/7 service, therefore the hours of work are shifts, including both day and night shifts.
Main duties of the job
Provide care to woman and babies in support of the midwife and undertake personal care duties for woman and babies in hospital, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Clinical
1. Assist and support mothers in feeding their babies.
2. Assist mothers in caring for babies nappy changing, bathing.
3. Provide and receive information using communication skills and empathy.
4. Clean beds, trolleys, rooms and undertake general housekeeping duties.
5. Under the supervision of a midwife, assist the mother in bathing / shower following delivery.
6. Transfer postnatal women from the delivery suite to the maternity ward as required.
7. Bed bath women after a caesarean section as requested.
8. Remove catheters and cannulae as requested.
9. Deliver food to women, ensuring high standard of hygiene.
10. Report any problems or concerns to midwives.
11. Escort women to other departments as required.
12. Undertake cleaning, tidying, assisting midwives with delivery trolleys, beds etc.
13. Participate in emergency skill drills to familiarise in prompt action/ treatment in emergency situations.
14. Ensure safe use and maintenance of designated equipment blood glucose machine, fridges and domestic appliances.
15. Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
16. Comply with responsibility to safeguard children, ensuring attendance at appropriate training.
17. Take personal responsibility for putting the person receiving care first and challenge poor care/practise, doing so as soon as any shortcomings are seen.
