Overview for the Engineering Planner
Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Planner to join their expanding team. As a crucial member of the engineering department, you will be responsible for the coordination and planning of all engineering activities across the site.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering/Engineering Manager, you will ensure maintenance schedules are executed efficiently and that resources are deployed effectively to support both production and non-production assets. Your role will be vital in establishing and implementing maintenance strategies, overseeing engineering projects, and ensuring seamless day-to-day operations.
You will develop and manage a weekly maintenance plan, aiming to minimise downtime and maximise operational readiness, while also driving continuous improvement. As the designated expert in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), you will maintain accurate data and performance records, ensuring all maintenance activities are meticulously tracked and reported.
Key Responsibilities for the Engineering Planner
1. Plan and schedule both planned and reactive maintenance work across the site, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
2. Work closely with other departments to ensure all engineering activities align with operational requirements and objectives.
3. Coordinate the efforts of both internal engineering teams and external contractors, ensuring resources are used efficiently and maintenance tasks are completed within the agreed timeframes.
4. Monitor contractor performance, manage permit-to-work systems, and enforce health and safety standards.
5. Lead the creation and implementation of the weekly maintenance plan, ensuring the engineering team has the necessary tools, equipment, and personnel available to carry out their tasks effectively.
6. Assess the team’s skills against the required workload and identify training needs to ensure ongoing professional development.
7. Serve as the primary user of the CMMS, using it to track work orders, manage maintenance tasks, and maintain up-to-date records.
8. Generate reports on key performance indicators, providing insights to inform decision-making at a senior level.
9. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance engineering efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall safety and compliance.
10. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety legislation, carrying out risk assessments and ensuring safe working practices are adhered to.
11. Collaborate with other departments to ensure maintenance work is coordinated with production schedules to avoid unnecessary downtime.
12. Support the development of a comprehensive asset care programme, managing preventive maintenance activities to extend equipment life and avoid breakdowns.
13. Maintain compliance with internal and external audit requirements, ensuring high standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
14. Communicate regularly with the site team, providing updates on the progress of maintenance tasks and addressing any operational issues.
15. Take ownership of engineering-related site projects, ensuring efficient planning, resourcing, and execution.
16. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, ensuring the CMMS is continually updated with accurate information.
