Clinical Duties: To contribute to a highly specialist assessment and intervention service for children and young people referred to the Autism Diagnostic service. Using specialist knowledge and experience of Autism to contribute to multi-disciplinary assessments to offer robust differential diagnosis. Undertake specialist assessments with children and parents as part of the diagnostic pathway. To write diagnostic reports reflecting the teams input, ensuring that these are contemporaneous and accurate as well as being accessible to the reader. To develop and run evidence-based interventions for children with Autism and their families. To provide specialist clinical advice and consultation to other professionals involved in a young persons care. To develop and deliver training packages to families and other professionals using highly specialist knowledge and skills in Autism-friendly support strategies. Contribute to the planning of services for children with Autism. To promote awareness and acceptance of Autism at a specialist level. To ensure that the child and young persons voice and families lived experience is at the heart of service developments. Continued Professional Development To maintain a high level of professional competence and an awareness of current developments in intervention/service delivery for diagnostic autism assessment and intervention. To undertake training as deemed appropriate and relevant to maintain specialist clinical skills, knowledge, and expertise to meet professional standards and service objectives. To maintain a personal log in line with HCPC requirements or other professional body. Management: To manage and prioritise own caseload ensuring effective clinical outcomes. The post holder will clinically supervise and lead junior members of the Autism Diagnostic Service as the service may develop. To participate in own clinical and management supervision To supervise and provide consultation to less experienced team members or other professionals in their work, where there are highly complex issues. Service Development To promote joint working with other professionals involved in a child or young persons care. To contribute to service development initiatives and projects to improve the experience of families accessing the service. To promote the use of Autism specific communication approaches in the community. To work jointly with the community Speech and Language Therapy service to ensure that communication needs of children and young people with Autism are being effectively met and are in line with best practice guidelines. Communication To ensure maintenance of accurate and up to date records in accordance with HSC and HPCP standards To provide reports and documentations relating to children and young peoples assessment and management to a high standard and in line with the service To implement relevant departmental and HSC policies and procedures regarding administrative practices To provide statistical data in a competent and prompt manner To communicate clearly with all staff members at all levels of the organisation demonstrating the CARE values and promoting inclusivity. Effectively communicate professional opinion, verbally and in writing to children, young people and the families, other professionals, and relevant stakeholders. Communicate highly complex condition-related information to referred individuals, their families, and carers, where there are significant barriers to this, including significant speech and language difficulties or in a highly emotive atmosphere. To participate in the annual staff PIP appraisal system.
