Consultant ENT Surgeon with interest in Rhinology

This is a new post created by the creation of an Elective Hub at the County Hospital site in Stafford so gives an exciting opportunity for development of the ENT/Rhinology services.
This consultant post will support the ENT team with both surgical and clinical work following the surge of clinical activity and to support the reduction of the backlog following the Covid-19 pandemic. Work will be based at both the Royal Stoke and County Hospitals. The team requires support from an enthusiastic ENT surgeon who can manage all aspects of ENT and Rhinology surgery
Main duties of the job
This consultant post is to support the ENT team with both surgical and clinical work following the surge of clinical activity and to support the reduction of the backlog following the Covid-19 pandemic. Work will be based at both the Royal Stoke and County Hospitals. The team requires support from an enthusiastic ENT surgeon who can manage all aspects of ENT and Rhinology surgery.
Specific surgical skills relating to ENT Rhinology surgery are required to assist with the surgical caseload. Medical education qualifications and experience are also highly desirable for this role.
The appointed applicant will have an integral role in assisting in waiting list backlogs, with routine new referrals, follow up appointments and general ENT operating lists. Successful applicants would be expected to take part in the on-call rota for the department based on a 1:9 weekday frequency and 1:14 weekend frequency as this is shared with Mid Cheshire NHS Trust.

Job responsibilities
This is a new substantive Consultant post. The successful applicant will do joint sessions at both the Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, Stafford. The surgeon will participate in the outpatients prior to surgery, and in all aspects of the operative care of the patients. The successful applicant will take part in an on-call rota 1:9 on a weekday frequency and 1:14 at the weekend frequency as this is shared with Mid Cheshire NHS Trust covering inpatients and emergency referrals from GPs and Emergency Department. It is expected the individual will be available to return to the hospital if needed
The job plan includes sessions at County hospital. Currently the operating at County is on day case only but is looking to expand operating to 7.30 pm in February 2025.
Person Specification
Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in ENT Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
* Postgraduate qualifications in medical education
* Experience of undergraduate teaching and supervision
* Experience of clinical supervision and mentorship
Qualifications
* Full GMC Specialist Registration
* Other higher degree (PhD, Masters, BSc)
