Job Advert Location Description:
To provide Clinical Management and Leadership of the full nursing team on the Ward, this includes being a highly visible role model and mentor to the nursing team. The post-holder has responsibility for overseeing and maintaining the highest standards of nursing care. The role will act as a senior clinical member of the team, providing advice and support from a nursing perspective and oversee and hold responsibility for the ward environment and its resources.
Responsibilities:
1. Manages the ward and resources effectively, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skill mix.
2. Ensures that all members of the nursing team receive clinical supervision, appraisal, CPD requirements, and complete mandatory training.
3. Addresses shortfalls in development and ensures that training and performance issues are addressed.
4. Acts as a highly visible role model, mentor, and leader, promoting a culture of learning and professionalism.
5. Disseminates, implements, and monitors compliance with relevant policies and statutory requirements.
6. Takes appropriate action to ensure the standard of care is of the highest quality.
7. Ensures that all patients have clear, current care plans that reflect their personalised needs.
8. Assesses and manages the physical healthcare needs of patients alongside their mental health needs.
9. Ensures clear procedures for the safe and effective running of the ward.
10. Contributes to the recruitment and retention of staff.
11. Ensures accurate communication and record-keeping related to patient information.
12. Develops strong working relationships with all colleagues.
13. Promotes diversity and equality.
14. Completes clinical investigations and HR investigations thoroughly and promptly.
15. Applies legislative frameworks regarding the Mental Health Act and related policies.
16. Responsible for Medicines Management in the clinical area/ward.
17. Liaises with ward pharmacist and acts on identified requirements.
18. Ensures incident reporting is completed promptly and corrective actions are taken.
19. Leads team reviews of incidents and ensures timely debriefs for staff.
20. Engages with the ward MDT for positive and efficient teamwork.
21. Deputises for the Director of Clinical Services as required.
22. Takes on additional responsibilities including clinical audits and training.
23. Communicates effectively with external stakeholders involved in patient care.
24. Provides cover and support to the wider team as needed.
25. Participates in the onsite on-call rota.
Knowledge/Education/Skills:
1. Must be registered with either NMC or HCPC.
2. Willingness to complete further clinical, managerial, and leadership training.
3. Competent computer skills.
4. Staff rostering capability/knowledge.
Experience:
1. At least 2 years experience in a supervisory capacity within a relevant clinical setting.
2. Evidence of continuing professional development.
3. Experience of clinical audit and/or service improvement is desirable.
4. Ability to manage multiple priorities.
5. Experience in management and leadership of teams.
