An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Bristol and Avon MS (BrAMS) Specialist Team!
BrAMS offer a unique service, offering support, information, clinical treatment and therapy and research to people across Bristol and the South West. The unit offers:
* Expert clinical knowledge in multiple sclerosis and associated neurological conditions.
* A dedicated specialist MS nurse team offering a range of specialist nurse led clinics, a telephone helpline services and invaluable support to MS patients their families and carers.
* A specialist physiotherapist service offering instant access to information, treatment, exercise and balance rehabilitation.
* An intravenous suite allowing access to daycase IV steroids, which are often used to treat patients in times of relapse or those with severe spasticity.
The specialist team are based at the Bristol Brain Centre at Southmead Hospital and the postholder will predominantly be in the day case unit delivering prescribed MS treatments.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder will work within the Bristol and Avon MS specialist team in the day case unit delivering prescribed MS treatments - these treatments may involve products that are handled as Cytotoxic in nature.
* The post holder will take personal responsibility and accountability for ensuring that The Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and will ensure duties are carried out with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the NMC Professional code of conduct.
* The post holder will be responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance, and evaluation of patient care within the department.
* The post holder will take responsibility for the supervision and guidance of other staff including Assistant Practitioners, healthcare support workers and students on a daily basis.
* The post holder will actively contribute to the provision of a good learning environment by taking on the role of mentor/assessor for learners e.g. student nurses and support worker roles.

Person Specification
Education/Training/Qualifications
Essential
* RGN/Paediatric Nurse, with current live Registration
* Competent in IV drug administration, cannulation, and venepuncture
* Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
* Teaching and assessing qualification (998 or equivalent) or willing to undertake after 2 years post registration (secured a position on this type of course)
Work Experience
Essential
* 3 years post registration experience
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of working in a day case setting
Desirable
* Experience of working in Neurology
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Essential
* Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping
* Basic computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service i.e. Lorenzo, ICE, EDMS etc.
* Time management and basic problem solving skills
Desirable
* Sound knowledge of Trust Policies & practices including manual handling, health & safety and infection control.
