Job description
Role Purpose:-
To assist the Tunnel Shift Managers in the SCL/TBM/Secondary Lining tunnel construction shift teams with the following:
1. Manage all safety issues on site
2. Act as the Emergency Persons in Charge for the shift
3. Supervise the SCL/TBM/Secondary Lining shift works
4. Working on an 8hr shift pattern Monday to Friday (Days, Backs, Nights).
Accountabilities:-
5. Demonstrate and lead the shift in commitment to safe working
6. Manage the programme on a weekly basis
7. Ensure that materials plant and equipment are orders in and managed
8. Planning and programming of the works
9. To be fully familiar with spray concrete lining / TBM works /Secondary Lining sufficient to undertake the role of Section Engineer
10. Weekly working rota of 8-hour shift pattern Monday - Sunday, Days, Backs and Nights
11. Supervision of tunnel shift engineer
12. Alignment control on tunnel drive
13. Preparation / review of Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Inspection and Test Plans.
14. Maintain good working relations with client / designer, together with our supply chain.
15. Attend the RESS Meetings daily to discuss SCL /TBM/Secondary Lining activity / actions with the designer, client, geotechnical engineers, surveyors.
16. Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
17. Communicate with Pit Boss and Lead Miners to ensure full understanding of information provided such as RESS and Shift Briefing, POWRA.
18. Arrange formal checking of setting out and ensure check request form is completed.
19. Ensure Shift Engineer completes inspection and test plans as required by the Project Management Plan/Specification, including checks of dimension accuracy and quality.
20. Provide accurate measurements for materials required for site. Maintain material reconciliation figures for reporting in the weekly site review meeting.
21. Liaise with Pit Boss and temporary works designers to determine optimum temporary works solutions
22. Input tunnelling construction data into the Tunnel Information Management / VMT system and liaise with the client representatives to ensure hold points are 'signed-off' accordingly.
Experience:-
Civil Engineering or Mining qualification to HNC / Degree level and have relevant professional tunnelling experience. Must hold a valid suitable grade of CSCS card after completing the Managers and Professionals HS&E Test and hold certificates/training below:
23. TSTS (if not held, to be completed before working in Tunnelling Environment)
24. C&G Tunnel Entry & Emergency Procedures (if not held, to be completed before working in Tunnelling Environment)
25. SMSTS / IOSH
26. Full experience of SCL/TBM/Secondary Lining works
27. Experience of face logging to BS 5930
28. Experience of shift work
29. Ability to manage shift engineers and operatives.
30. Experience of maintaining good relations with designer and client.
31. Government legislation and Company policy on all matters relating to safety and environment.
32. Knowledge of BS6164
33. Thorough knowledge of construction procedures and working methods.
34. Technically proficient with a good understanding in other areas in the engineering field and have the professional credibility to engage and inspire others.
35. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with team members under time pressure.
36. Able to support learning & institution recognition for others as delegated engineer.
37. Ability to contribute to the design, development, construction, commissioning or maintenance of civil engineering products, equipment, processes, systems or services.
38. Knowledge of the procedures and methods for testing site materials, understanding the requirements of any laboratory, and have the ability to perform the role of testing engineer.
39. Understand specified tolerances for work activities in progress.
40. Complete detailed checklists for each work activity, if required.
41. Ability to interpret drawings correctly and check for error.
