The post holder will be a supportive core member of the Cancer Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs), a member of the Cancer Nursing Team and aid in the development of nursing practice in these specialist areas, working across the healthcare teams including diagnostic services.
Main duties of the job
They will act as a supportive key worker for patients with cancer, their families and carers on the IOW, and will co-ordinate Island Patients Care throughout their cancer pathway in conjunction with the key worker.
Job responsibilities
There are four main areas of responsibility: Clinical, Educational, Professional and Research.
The post holder will undertake the responsibility of the senior clinical nurse specialist in her absence. This includes:
* Providing a comprehensive quality service for the management of patients who come for assessment including screening, with cancer and their carers/family at primary diagnosis and metastatic diagnosis. Making contact with patients to provide practical, psychological and emotional support.
* Providing expert communication with patients in ways which empower them to make informed choices about their health and healthcare, providing practical information on all aspects of treatment.
* Working in collaboration with the lead clinician and the Multidisciplinary Team on the Isle of Wight and Mainland, to provide a high quality co-ordinated service between all disciplines, encompassing a multi-disciplinary approach to care.
* Acting as a resource in providing evidence based advice and information to promote the health and well-being of patients with cancer, and offering clinical expertise in treatments/therapies for patients to optimise positive health outcomes and quality of life.
* Providing professional innovation within the specialty, and contributing to the development of cancer services throughout the Trust as a core member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
* Providing clinical nursing leadership and acting as a specialist resource for nurses, doctors and others in the acute trust and community services within the specialty.
* Taking part in the development and implementation of clinical audit and research projects in specialist areas, ensuring that the findings are disseminated and good practice is shared across the trust and beyond, in accordance with Trust governance and clinical guidelines.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with live NMC registration
* Cancer care/training/knowledge.
* Formal qualification or through relevant cancer or counselling experience
* To be in the process of completing a degree or already hold a relevant degree.
