Job summary The role of the Fetal Medicine Specialist Midwife is to co-ordinate the continuity of care and support of women (their partners and families) during screening for/diagnosis of fetal anomaly and/or high-risk pregnancy. Main duties of the job To ensure communication and information sharing systems supports access to high quality consultation between professionals and referral from one level of care to another as appropriate. Communicate information in a way that makes it relevant and understandable for women and their families. Establish methods to recording activity, monitoring success of maternal and fetal medicine interventions and informing other health professionals and commissioners. Present findings at local and wider maternity forums on trends and outcomes and potential service requirements for this group. Liaise with local and regional fetal medicine consultants and other specialist services including genetics, cardiology, oral-facial, paediatricians and blood transfusion services. Enable transfers between services (internal and external) to be facilitated by establishing clear referral protocols. Provide first line and ongoing counselling for women/birthing people and their families diagnosis of fetal anomaly.
