Llety Newydd is a continuing health care unit, which provides long-term care to patients who still require hospital provision based in the Cardiff Area.
The team comprises of a unit manager, deputy, registered nurses, and health care support workers. In addition to this, the team will work alongside the inpatient multi-disciplinary team to work towards discharge to the community.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse to work in the Cardiff area.
The Registered Nurse will have experience of working with people with learning disabilities, mental health issues, and a forensic history.
We provide specialist care for people with learning disabilities as part of Swansea Bay University Health Board's Mental Health and Learning Disability Delivery Unit. The successful candidate will be required to work as part of a seven-day service, which includes working weekends, nights, and bank holidays.
Main duties of the job
1. You will manage the ward for a span of duty and liaise with the MDT to deliver specialist healthcare to meet the needs of the patients.
2. You will act as Primary nurse for a small group of individuals and adhere to legislative frameworks.
3. You will promote equality for all service users through anti-discriminatory practice, supporting individuals' rights, choices, beliefs, and identity and by supporting individuals through effective communication.
4. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a positive attitude to working with people with challenging behaviour, and experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment.
5. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities
1. You will effectively manage the ward for a span of duty, e.g. ensuring adequate staffing within resources, liaison with all other Health Care Professionals, responding to queries from patients' relatives/carers, and ensuring that all care is delivered to the highest standard and in accordance with the Swansea Bay Health Board and Mental Health & Learning Disability Delivery Unit Policies and Procedures.
2. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver specialist care to meet the needs of people with a learning disability who are in need of inpatient services. To act as a Primary Nurse or Care Coordinator for a small group of individuals and ensuring legislative frameworks are adhered to, e.g. Mental Health Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and Mental Health Measure (Wales).
3. You will implement operational policies and clinical pathways to ensure evidence-based practice and provide feedback to support the review of such policies.
4. You will adhere to the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and maintain accurate records, participate in supervision, and ensure continued professional development is maintained.
5. You will support and supervise Health Care Support Workers to deliver care by acting as a positive role model, following evidence-based practice.
