OUR COMPANY
Quell was founded in March 2019 in partnership with six prominent immunological experts from King's College London, University College London, and Hannover Medical School, and is led by Iain McGill, a leading pharmaceutical executive with extensive relevant experience, having spent most of his 25 years in the industry in immunology, including the areas of solid organ and cell transplantation. The Company was founded with initial series A financing, led by Syncona Ltd who committed $83M with a further $1M contributed by UCL Technology Fund.
THE ROLE
Responsibilities:
1. Contributes to the development of novel in vitro and molecular biology assays to interrogate CAR-Treg function.
2. Expected to operate more than 50% in the lab depending on team requirements.
3. Understands project goals and executes well-defined scientific projects.
4. Interprets results, evaluates data, and draws relevant conclusions.
5. Completes high-quality scientific projects requiring minimal supervision.
6. Plans assignments for a research group/project, troubleshoots complex problems.
7. Contributes to internal and external scientific literature.
8. Coordinates research activities in the context of a larger group.
9. Drafts well-organised documents (SOPs) and reports.
10. Provides scientific guidance and training to more junior staff.
11. Draws relevant inferences from appropriate scientific literature and work experience.
12. Participates constructively and presents data in working teams and at lab meetings.
13. Complies with standard lab practices and company policies.
Essentials:
1. CAR T cells and Cell Therapy.
2. Cellular Immunology.
3. Molecular biology - T cell gene engineering, cloning strategies, primer design.
4. Strong laboratory skills and substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
5. Good written and verbal communication skills.
6. Ability to work independently and complete research projects under supervision with moderate input.
7. Experience with and application of relevant scientific approaches and techniques.
8. Experience of working with CAR-T/TCR-T methodologies ideally in a biotech setting or alternatively in an academic setting.
9. Familiar with molecular biology techniques used in cell and gene therapy.
10. Prior experience with software packages such as GraphPad and Excel.
Desirables:
1. T cell receptor signalling.
2. Experience of pre-clinical workstreams in biotech.
3. In vivo experience/ UK Home Office License holder.
4. Development and/or use of cutting-edge technologies (e.g., organoids).
5. Experience of working with rare T cell subsets.
6. Solid understanding of Treg biology.
7. Previous experience of using electronic lab notebooks.
Education Essentials:
1. PIL holder.
2. Extensive Animal Handling.
3. Ph.D. or MD/ Ph.D. in relevant scientific discipline.
4. Master's degree or native equivalent with 5+ years of directly related experience.
5. Bachelor's degree in scientific discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience.
