Main duties of the job
This post is an integral part of the Finance Systems team. As part of this team, you will be providing routine maintenance of the Trust’s Finance Ledger and ensuring its integrity and security. You will support development and administration of financial systems and provide technical and analytical support to the Trust.
As well providing administration duties, there will also be the opportunity to be involved in the planning and implementation of projects, helping to improve system processes and drive efficiencies.
The ideal candidate will enjoy working with data, creating reports and have a good understanding of double entry accounting.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To assist in the maintenance of the financial ledger and other supporting finance related systems as directed, ensuring that system integrity is maintained and that individual transactions and the overall Trust and shared user group financial positions are accurately reflected.
2. To process transactional feeds, across the shared service, to the general ledger in accordance with agreed timetables. Ensuring feeds are validated, control records are maintained and any queries that may arise are promptly resolved.
3. In liaison with the Senior Assistant Systems Accountant ensure that the finance ledger remains in balance at all times investigating / correcting errors in a timely manner. Similarly to ensure the integrity and accuracy of budget manager / other system generated reports and drill down facilities are maintained and reconcile precisely to the general ledger.
4. To maintain the organisational hierarchies within the Finance Ledger and ensure these reflect the current structure.
5. Respond to requests from users for amendments to cost centre / expense codes, ensuring validation checks are completed prior to set up.
6. To maintain password and security access controls for ledger users ensuring accurate audit records are maintained.
7. To support the Senior Assistant Systems Accountant, liaising with system providers to resolve financial ledger issues as they arise in order to maintain services and minimise service disruption.
8. To provide a user helpdesk facility for advice and support to resolve queries and to communicate planned system maintenance and downtime.
9. Responding to the needs of users and as directed by and in support of the Senior Assistant Systems Accountant, Systems Accountant and/or Financial Accountant:
* Design / maintain and reconcile bespoke databases necessary to ensure accurate reporting
* Apply specialist report writing skills to develop reports and provide support as required (e.g. SAP Business Objects, xQuery, Crystal)
* Extract financial / non-financial information from the financial ledger or other bespoke systems utilised within the finance department.
* Assist in the implementation of agreed ledger and other finance related system developments / upgrades. Provide training / instruction to users as necessary.
10. To maintain and develop the finance area held on the Trust Intranet.
11. To provide on-site to shared service partner organisations as directed.

Qualifications
* GCSE Maths and English
* AAT Qualified
* ECDL or equivalent
Previous Experience
* Relevant experience of working in a finance department and an understanding of the processes and procedures supporting financial accounting transactions in a large organisation
* Experience of IT including advanced spreadsheets, databases and computerised financial ledgers.
* Understanding of NHS Finance
* Previous NHS experience
* Crystal, xQuery and/or SAP Business Objects report writing experience
* Experience in finance systems role
Evidence of knowledge, skills and aptitudes
* Strong IT Skills specifically spreadsheets supported by an understanding of databases
