About the role
ULAS are looking for adaptable field staff with a strong team ethic to join us on a number of large excavations we currently have running in the Midlands. Two excavations on the edge of Leicester have complex prehistoric, Roman and Anglo-Saxon remains to record, while a large project in Warwickshire is focussed on a Deserted Medieval Village, as well as prehistoric and Roman features.
As an integral part of the team, you will engage in a variety of archaeological site work and contribute to post-excavation processes. Your responsibilities will encompass the meticulous excavation and recording of archaeological sites, ensuring adherence to ULAS's high standards and health and safety protocols. This includes conducting fieldwalking, landscape surveys, and digital recording, as well as supporting site logistics and equipment maintenance.
Additionally, you will assist in processing and analysing archaeological finds and samples, contributing to the preparation of comprehensive site archives and reports. Opportunities may also arise to partake in community outreach initiatives, reflecting ULAS's commitment to public engagement and education.
About you
With proven experience in commercial fieldwork and a solid understanding of archaeological recording systems and techniques, you will have knowledge of current health and safety requirements in archaeology. You will have the ability to work flexibly, independently and as part of a team.
Strong organisational and communication skills are vital, enabling you to interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. While a degree in Archaeology or a related subject is desirable, we value practical experience and a proactive approach.
Vacancy terms
