Purpose of the Role
The Duty Manager is responsible for managing the Security team and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of British Airways Engineering Base during their shift. This includes managing resources, resolving operational issues, and ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and company standards. The role requires excellent leadership skills to oversee a dynamic team while maintaining high levels of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day security operations, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.- Manage shift schedules, resource allocation, and task prioritisation to meet operational demands.- Act as the first point of contact for any operational disruptions or incidents, coordinating with relevant teams to minimise impact.- Ensure all Security activities comply with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and British Airways' regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to security staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.- Conduct regular briefings with the team to communicate updates, priorities, and safety information.- Monitor team performance, identifying training needs and supporting professional development.
Customer Focus
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including flight operations and ground services, to deliver seamless security support.- Respond to client and operational queries promptly and professionally.
Safety and Compliance
- Maintain and enforce adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.- Conduct regular safety checks and risk assessments, ensuring timely resolution of any identified issues.- Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process optimisation and efficiency improvements within security operations.- Participate in investigations, audits, and reviews to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
- Proven experience in an operational management role within a security or aviation environment.- Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage teams in a fast-paced setting.- Excellent knowledge of security regulations and compliance requirements in the aviation sector.- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.- Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve complex issues effectively.

Working Hours
This role requires flexibility, including shift work, weekends, and public holidays, to support 24/7 operations, shift pattern: 4 on 4 off which consist of 2 Day shift and 2 Night shifts at 12 hours.
