We are looking for a Tree Surgeon Assistant to join a professional tree care team in Northern Ireland. This role is ideal for individuals who are physically fit, hands-on, and eager to learn about arboriculture. You will assist experienced tree surgeons in carrying out a variety of tree care tasks, including pruning, tree removals, and site clearance. This is a part-time temporary position with the potential to become permanent, offering on-the-job training, career progression opportunities, and all necessary protective equipment. The role will generally involve working Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with additional days available depending on workload. While weekends are typically avoided, occasional Saturday work may be required during busy periods or in response to storms and emergency call-outs. Key Responsibilities Assisting qualified tree surgeons with tree felling, pruning, and ground maintenance tasks. Operating and maintaining equipment such as chainsaws, wood chippers, and stump grinders (training provided). Setting up work sites, ensuring safe working conditions, and clearing debris. Managing ropes and assisting climbers in tree surgery operations. Adhering to health and safety regulations, wearing PPE, and following best practices in arboriculture. Supporting emergency call-outs when required. What We Are Looking For A valid UK driver's licence (clean licence required). Physical fitness and stamina - the job involves heavy lifting, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and potentially working at heights. A head for heights - although you will start as a ground worker, confidence at height is beneficial. A strong work ethic and a willingness to learn - no formal qualifications are required, but experience in tree work, landscaping, or outdoor labouring is advantageous. Flexibility - standard working days are Wednesday to Friday, with additional days available when required. Occasional Saturday work may be needed during busy periods.
