We currently have Healthcare Support Worker positions on our wards at the University Hospital of Wales, including critical care, haematology, medical wards, surgical wards, and the major trauma centre.
As a Healthcare Support Worker in our areas, you will play a crucial part in our nursing teams. We are committed to providing the skills and training that you need to help you in delivering high-quality care to our patients. You will be able to work collaboratively alongside the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
You should have good communication and interpersonal skills along with an ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

Part-time hours are 24 per week, full-time 36 or 37.5.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will be involved in direct and indirect care of our patients in line with agreed protocols. Some of the duties may include:
* Assisting with daily living activities such as eating, showering, and using the toilet.
* Taking the patient's observations such as blood pressure and temperature.
* Talking to patients and reassuring them.
* Assisting registered nurses and other staff when needed.
* Ensuring a high standard of infection control procedures, in accordance with our policies.
* Maintaining ward stocks, keeping storerooms organized, keeping clinical areas and equipment clean and tidy, and any other duties as delegated by nursing staff.
The post holder will communicate regularly with the patient, their relatives, and the multidisciplinary team involved in the provision of care in a caring, compassionate, and professional manner, always maintaining patient confidentiality and following information governance policies and procedures.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of education, including GCSE English and Maths Grade A-C or equivalent
* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
Experience
* Experience in caring for people
* Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment
* Clerical experience
Skills
* Numerate. Good standard of written and spoken English essential
* Good interpersonal and people skills
* Able to return information and carry out instructions accurately
* Able to maintain confidentiality
* Know how to/be able to deal with people in challenging circumstances
Personal Qualities
* Able to communicate with people at all levels
