Job Summary:
As a skilled Security Guard, you play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our clients, employees, and visitors. Your dedication, vigilance, and proactive approach to enforcing safety protocols, including adherence to the Security Safe Work Practice (SWP) policy, are vital in preventing incidents and ensuring peace of mind. This position requires strong observational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a firm commitment to safety. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Job Duties:
* Monitor and patrol assigned areas to deter and detect signs of intrusion or suspicious activity.
* Check in/out all personnel that arrive and depart the property including vessel crews, non-regular Mersey personnel, contractors, transport drivers, delivery drivers, and visitors.
* Ensure all individuals entering the property sign in on the maintained logbook in the Gatehouse before they are allowed entry.
* Enforce facility security policies and procedures, ensuring compliance by all individuals on site.
* Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and incidents, providing first aid and support as needed. *(First aid training will be provided by Employer)
* Report all emergencies or vessel alarms per the Emergency Contacts List, pump out vessels if high water alarms are activated, and report break-ins to 911. Conduct a property walk to check vessels for fire and water leaks and perform four (4) walks per shift at the other facility across the river (approximately 1/4-kilometer return).
* Inspect the area by walking or driving, checking doors and other key spots. If boat pumping is required, open the valves and activate the pumps (electric pumps can be started by pressing the button).
* Monitor and use surveillance systems and security equipment efficiently.
* Report security incidents and irregularities, and prepare detailed reports as required.
* If properly trained, operate machinery, i.e., Forklift (to straighten/adjust gangways on nightshift).
* Conduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and access points to ensure security measures are in place.
* Communicate with and collect courier packages/signs for small deliveries and place packages in the office.
* Prepare daily shift security report to outline daily activities, incidents, and any safety or security concerns.
* Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
* Attend training sessions to stay updated on security protocols and emergency response techniques.
* Ensure all doors and gates are locked after office staff and other employees have left for the day.
* Deliver outstanding customer service by assisting visitors and staff while upholding a professional attitude. Always remain considerate, courteous, and treat everyone with respect.
Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Security training or certification would be considered an asset.
* Previous experience in security or a related field preferred.
* Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
* Trained in operating machinery, i.e., Forklift (to straighten gangways on nightshift), is considered an asset.
* Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
* Basic first aid and CPR certification are advantageous.
* Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Conditions:
* 24/7 availability may be required.
* Physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
* Travel to off-site locations may be required.
* A valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle is required.
* Overtime as required.
* Hazards associated with position/industry.
* Work both indoors and outdoors.
* The use of safety equipment, such as steel-toed safety boots and safety glasses/goggles, is mandatory.
* Steel-toed boots and hard hats must always be worn when outside the Gatehouse.
* Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) must be worn when on the wharf or boarding vessels.
* Heightened attention to vessel lines and gangways is to be adhered to during storm surges, active storms, etc.
* May be exposed to construction sites.
