Plastic Energy is a world leading chemical recycling company with a global mission to end plastic waste. We stand at the forefront of innovation, with a patented and proven process to convert end-of-life plastic waste into TACOIL, which replaces fossil oils in the production of clean, food-grade plastics.
Plastic Energy is headquartered in London, with offices in Seville, Singapore and Malaysia. We currently own and operate two chemical recycling plants in Spain, with further construction projects underway in Europe and Asia. Our Research & Development laboratories, where the post holder will be based, are located on the Science and Enterprise park next to Loughborough University.
You would be joining a dynamic company within a rapidly growing technology sector. It’s an exciting time to join Plastic Energy as we embark on and expand our global portfolio of new projects.
Given the intense interest in our technology, we are strengthening our Research and Development team based in Loughborough. We are seeking a technically minded individual, with a “can do” attitude and who would enjoy having meaningful input into an emerging sector.
After training, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of Plastic Energy’s pyrolysis pilot plant, based within the company’s Loughborough laboratories, this will Include duties such as:
* Planning of the experiments,
* Delivering on time results to stakeholders,
* Implementing Pilot Plant improvements/modifications, following the company protocol.
* Project management, especially managing 3 parties (Customer, suppliers, other stakeholders within the company).
* Carryout pilot plant maintenance and coordinate annual servicing, as required.
* Order spares and consumables for the pilot plant.
* You will follow and enforce the required health and safety practices and procedures.
* Prepare samples for analysis and submit these for wider laboratory for processing.
* Work with the laboratory manager to manage the feedstock, products and wasted streams produced by the pilot plant.
* Collaborate with the wider technology group on projects that will be run on the pilot plant, using your experience to advise on the planned work.
* Be proactive in resolving equipment issues relating to the pilot plant, seeking assistance from experienced team members or 3 parties where appropriate.
* Assist in the continued technical development and roll-out of Plastic Energy’s technology on a global scale. This may occasionally involve international travel and collaboration with other stakeholders.
* Undertake other duties as may be reasonably requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
Qualifications required
* A degree-level qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science, or relevant industrial experience.
Training required
* Basic knowledge of standard chemical analysis equipment (i.e., GCMS, Elemental Analysers, FTIR etc.)
* Good maths and IT skills.
Desirable Experience
* Experience of working with pilot or process scale equipment, within a laboratory or commercial setting.
* Ability to detect deviations from process standard conditions and to take appropriate actions.
* Experience of working with air sensitive materials and / or high temperature systems.
* Experience of working with flammable materials.
* Experience of working with, Swagelok compression fittings.
* Experience of gas analysis and the maintenance of GC’s.
