Are you looking for a change in career? Do you want to build on and enhance the high level of skills and experience you already possess? Why not consider this exciting opportunity to join the Early Intervention in Psychosis team in Gateshead? The service works with people between the ages of 14 - 65 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis.
Applications are welcome from registered mental health & learning disability nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists. This is an opportunity to be a part of a very supportive team, where your contribution and development are highly valued. The successful applicants will work exclusively with individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis across Gateshead.
You will be able to work autonomously and will be willing and able to develop your skills and knowledge for this specialist role. You will be involved in completing holistic assessments and delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to people on your caseload.
Care coordination is part of your role; however, in EIP we aim to keep caseloads to a manageable level to enable our clinicians to focus on quality interventions and increased clinical contact, with an emphasis on recovery. The service is committed to developing the skills of practitioners, so there will be ongoing opportunities to develop further clinical skills and participate in research.
Working in the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) team is an excellent opportunity for Community Practitioners to offer care and support on a recovery-focused journey for people aged 14-65 years who are experiencing their first psychotic experience.
Our team works closely with the service users and their families over a 3-year period, during this time we offer a range of therapeutic interventions to support their recovery and mental health needs. Opportunities for practitioners to develop or build on existing skills are available.
Practitioners will work with service users in overcoming any difficulties that they might have, help develop understanding about symptoms, support the development of new ways of coping, and aid daily living skills. Caseloads aim to be capped at 15.
Responsibilities include:
1. To be responsible for the Assessment and Management of service users who have substantial and complex needs.
2. To deliver evidenced-based Clinical and Psychologically based Interventions.
3. Participation in duty rota and triaging new referrals.
4. To support health promotion of service users.
5. Promote a culture of learning, education, and professional development – the team often has student nurses/social workers on placement.
6. Adhere to the principles of safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults in line with Trust Policy and local reporting procedure.
7. To undertake and record comprehensive risk assessments, devise and implement risk management plans for clients, using the Biopsychosocial Risk Assessment Tool.
We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented, and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return, we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.
We want you to be committed to ensuring that only the highest standards of care are delivered to our service users, their families, and carers. In return, one of our top priorities is looking after our staff so that we have a happy and healthy workforce.
You will need to be clinically experienced, solution-focused, and competent in working with individuals, their families, and carers, in a community setting. You should have a collaborative and enthusiastic approach as well as the passion and commitment to develop and promote recovery-based interventions for adults with mental health-related needs.
