Job Description Overview We are seeking a dedicated BSL (British Sign Language) Teaching Assistant to support students with hearing impairment/deafness. This role is based in a wonderful mainstream Secondary School based in Rayleigh, Essex that has a provision for children who have hearing impairment/are deaf. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of BSL and experience working with children who are hearing impaired/deaf. Responsibilities BSL Teaching Assistants have the following responsibilities: Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with hearing impairment. Assist the teacher in creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment. Facilitate communication between students and teachers using BSL or other communication tools such as Makaton. Work collaboratively with the educational team to ensure the learning environment is conducive to the needs of students with hearing impairment. Provide support during classroom activities, ensuring that all students have equal access to educational materials and opportunities. Qualifications You must have an enhanced DBS certificate (Child & Adult Workforce as the school has some 19 year old pupils) registered on the update service. If not, you must be willing to pay for a new one (£52.20). Proficiency in BSL (Level 3 or above). Experience working with individuals who have hearing impairment. Knowledge of Makaton is an advantage. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Hours & Pay This is a full-time position, working hours of 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (term-time only). This is a temporary to permanent position. We offer a daily rate of £85-95 per day (paid weekly: £425-475 PAYE). A permanent contract is available once you have completed at least 12 academic weeks (and subject to excellent performance).
