Job summary We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our outstanding maternity team as a maternity housekeeper/stock assistant on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. The post will be based on labour ward, but there may be times where you will provide support and cover to other maternity wards. The role will suit someone who has high standards of cleanliness and organisation. You will need to be able to multi-task and work in a busy and at times challenging environment. The housekeeper is pivotal in ordering stock and ensuring there is enough stock items at all times so safe patient care in maintained. You must be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team alongside the maternity support workers, midwives and ward managers. You will be responsible for recognising when supplies are below the required stock level and also for making and actioning plans when problems arise. A good understanding of maths and communication in English will be essential in assisting you in this role. Excellent communication skills are required as you will have to liaise with many departments, such as distribution, suppliers, estates and the infection control team. Main duties of the job To provide an efficient and comprehensive housekeeping service to all patients, visitors and staff whilst contributing to the enhancement of patient care and our maternity services. The housekeeper plays a vital role in our team, despite working independently, ensuring a pleasant, safe, welcoming and clean environment. To ensure economical and safe use of supplies and equipment and assisting the ward managers in identifying needs of stock supply. Facilitate rotation of stock to ensure use of older stock is utilised first. To play a key role in infection control and prevention. To monitor quality standards, report deficiencies and take appropriate action, working closely with contractors and support services. They will have systems for accurate record keeping; this will include the maintenance of documentation and inputting of data.
