Job Summary
The Vales have an exciting opportunity for Mental Healthcare Support Workers to join their team. The Vales provides high dependency rehabilitation to females who are detained under the mental health act for treatment of their mental illness and/or disorder. The Vales provides psychological interventions for patients with both mental health illnesses and personality disorders who are requiring psychological therapies who present with symptoms of complex trauma.
As a Mental Healthcare Support Worker at the Vales, you would be expected to support recovery, promote independence, and facilitate the achievement of goals whilst working alongside the nursing team and wider multi-disciplinary team, which consists of occupational therapy, social workers, specialty doctors, and consultants.
The successful candidate will be provided with a local induction on commencement of their role, which will include boundary training, knowledge around clinical processes, and policies. There is monthly clinical supervision provided to all staff to aid development, knowledge, and support. Regular management supervision will be provided and opportunities for continuing professional development within LPFT.
Main Duties of the Job
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of high-quality care within a ward environment, through involvement in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
Job Responsibilities
1. To work within the policies, protocols, and clinical procedures of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust and to promote competent working practice within an integrated multi-disciplinary team.
2. To liaise with the nurses and carry out assigned duties as a member of the multi-disciplinary mental health team.
3. To be prepared to work on own initiative as necessary and report to the Nurses.
4. Promote equality for all patients and understand their health needs.
5. Demonstrate an awareness of service user and carer perspectives on the provision of treatment and continuing care.
6. Participate regularly in clinical supervision sessions.
7. Liaise with representatives from associated voluntary and statutory organisations and facilitate good communication processes.
8. Attend in-service training and other study/refresher days to meet individual, statutory and service needs.
9. Participate in performance reviews.
10. To work with service users to promote independence, maximising daily living skills.
11. Assist in maintaining general and specific patient observations under the supervision of registered nursing staff.
12. Facilitate and participate in recreational and physical activities in the provision of health and social care to service users.
13. Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities in relation to patients' property and valuables, respecting cultural values.
14. Always act in a manner that promotes and safeguards the interests and wellbeing of patients.
15. Actively promote a responsible caring attitude at all times, treating all patients with dignity and respect.
16. Always act in a manner that ensures no patient is the subject of any form of abuse.
17. To report any incident which does not comply with Trust policy regarding incident reporting.
18. Participate in the escorting of patients as per the Unit procedures.
19. Accompany patients and participate, as needed, in recreational activities.
20. Maintain good order and cleanliness on the Unit.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
* Previous relevant experience working with people with mental health problems at a nursing assistant grade or equivalent within a health and social care setting.
Desirable
* Voluntary or working capacity with mental health service or equivalent.
Qualifications
Essential
* Cavendish Care Certificate or willingness to work towards, resourced by LPFT.
* NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent.
* NVQ Level 3 in Promoting Independence or equivalent or working towards achievement.
Desirable
* Certificate in Community Mental Health.
* ECDL.
Skills
Essential
* Skills related to Physical healthcare interventions such as urine analysis, phlebotomy, TPR, and BP etc., recording findings and informing supervising nurse of results.
* IT skills.
Desirable
* Immediate life support.
* Venepuncture.
