A specialist SEMH school in Leyland is seeking individuals who have experience supporting students in their learning. If you are passionate about supporting young people, particularly those who require further development in their learning, then this could be the role for you. The school is smaller than average, with around 50 pupils on roll. The class sizes are small, with only 6-12 pupils in each class.
As a Teaching Assistant specializing in SEMH, you will be expected to be a reliable, resilient, and supportive presence in the classroom. Previous experience with behavior management is required for this role. Training in de-escalation techniques, such as Team Teach, is desired but not essential. The role may involve working 1-1 with certain pupils based upon the relationships you form once in the school. This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, on an ongoing basis. This role is due to begin in September 2024, and there is a high chance of a permanent position for the right applicant.
The ideal candidate will:
1. Have a strong understanding of safeguarding requirements in schools
2. Have high expectations of student behavior and clear strategies for working with students with challenging behavior
3. Have experience of working with children with SEND and SEMH needs
Requirements:
1. Experience working with children (ideally in a school setting) or vulnerable adults with SEND or SEMH needs
2. An understanding of behavior management and de-escalation techniques
