Department Overview
The Deputy Finance Director (DFD) has overall leadership and management responsibility for the reporting and financial management areas of Finance which support and monitor the delivery of the University’s financial strategy. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) they are often required to deputise formally for her at internal and external events, committees, and fora.
Main duties
* Actively manage the day-to-day, operational, and tactical aspects of the team’s activity.
* Lead, motivate, and be accountable for the performance of the team (approx. 65 people).
* Ensure the University’s financial strategy remains fit for purpose and is understood across all business areas.
* Deliver all aspects of the annual reporting calendar of the University relating to financial matters.
* Act as the financial reporting and accounting expert authority for stakeholders.
* Devise financial processes and reporting to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
* Identify best practices for financial activity ensuring high quality delivery.
* Develop and implement a culture that promotes equality and values diversity and inclusion.
* Deliver agreed targets in relation to all aspects of financial service delivery.
* Produce high quality written reports, data, and analysis.
* Chair team and stakeholder meetings, providing expertise and facilitating consensus.
* Manage resources and budgets allocated to your area.
* Work with senior members of the Colleges & Professional Services to shape strategic direction.
* Support the University’s sustainability agenda.
* Any other duties commensurate with the grade.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
* Educated to Degree level with a relevant Finance or Accounting qualification.
* Substantial experience of leading and managing staff.
* Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
* Experience of financial reporting and managing external audits.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
* Proven experience of solving complex problems.
* Experience of resource and financial management.
* Actively promotes equality and diversity.
