The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to join a dynamic and growing organisation with a diverse portfolio of businesses. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and enjoys variety in their day-to-day work.
The organisation is in an exciting growth phase, with ambitious plans across its food, property, and leisure businesses. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping their financial operations during this transformative period, working closely with the CFO and a small, dedicated finance team.
The Role
This is a highly varied role where you’ll take ownership of cash flow management, budgeting, and financial reporting across the group. The organisation’s structure, where businesses are linked by shareholding but operate independently, makes cash flow management particularly complex and central to this position.
You’ll be responsible for monitoring daily cash movements, producing detailed short- and long-term forecasts, and managing funds across different entities. The ability to adapt to a structured cash flow environment and maintain precision in forecasting is essential.
In addition to core financial responsibilities, you’ll collaborate with the finance team on strategic initiatives and step in to support operational challenges as needed. The role suits someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and working alongside a team that prides itself on camaraderie and a hands-on approach.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Monitoring daily cash flow and creating detailed forecasts to ensure smooth fund movements across multiple businesses.
* Taking the lead on budgeting and financial planning to support growth plans.
* Producing financial reports for senior management, offering insights into variances and actionable recommendations.
* Collaborating with a small, tight-knit finance team to ensure seamless operations.
* Supporting ad hoc tasks, reflecting the organisation’s “all-hands-on-deck” culture.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, or ACA) with strong experience in cash flow forecasting and financial management. You’ll have advanced Excel skills and a proven ability to manage complex financial processes in structured or restricted cash flow environments.
Experience in high-asset, low-turnover businesses is advantageous, but the organisation is equally open to candidates with the right skills who are eager to grow into the role.
This is more than a technical role – the team is looking for someone who works well in a collaborative environment, takes initiative, and is ready to tackle both high-level strategy and practical day-to-day challenges. A positive attitude, a strong sense of humour, and a hands-on approach are key to fitting in with the team.
Why Join?
This is a rare opportunity to join an organisation at a key stage of growth. With significant plans in place, including expanding turnover in just one division from £1.2 million to £20 million within four years, the role offers scope to make a real impact.
The culture is collaborative and team-focused, with a unique environment where everyone mucks in to get things done. From financial strategy to hands-on problem-solving, no two days are the same, and you’ll be part of a close-knit team that genuinely supports one another.
If you’re looking for a varied and rewarding role where you can make a tangible difference, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Note: This role is for an organisation with a private investment and operational structure, so discretion and professionalism are key
