Mechanical Manufacturing Apprentice Technician
This position is only open to staff members of the University of Leeds and the current T level cohort at the University of Leeds.
Do you have a technical approach to problem-solving, an interest in Mechanical Manufacturing and are you keen to work and train in a specialised workshop environment? Do you want to begin your career as a research support technician in one of the country’s top University Engineering and Physical Sciences Faculties?
We are looking for a dynamic and resourceful apprentice with a technical mind, an aptitude for practical, hands-on problem-solving and the commitment to support a wide range of users in carrying out world-class research and development into Mechanical Manufacturing. As an apprentice you will provide support to the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences here at the University of Leeds.
As part of our degree apprenticeship technical training scheme, you will be working in the Faculty’s Mechanical Workshops. These workshops deliver design and manufacture of bespoke products used by research groups and industrial partners across the Engineering and Physical Sciences disciplines. You will attend the University of Sheffield/AMRC Training, where you will work towards a BEng in Mechanical Manufacture over the duration of the apprenticeship at an equivalent of one day a week, the apprenticeship is for 4 years. The training at Sheffield University/AMRC is in person.
You will be trained in mechanical design and modern manufacturing techniques utilising the mechanical workshop to create various bespoke individual parts and assemblies. You will support staff and students with their research needs, taking on more specialised responsibilities as you progress in the role. You will develop professional skills in CNC manufacturing and design for manufacture, ensuring all work complies with health and safety regulations.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
