Bayswater College London is seeking to appoint an adjunct professor for a level three course in Ethical Issues in Sport for the fall semester - starting week 1st September 2025 and concluding on 19th December, with a study break on 20-24 October 2025. The course will be delivered to US study abroad students in London.
This course explores the complex moral dilemmas faced by athletes, coaches, and organizations in the world of sports. Topics include fair play, doping, gender equality, and the impact of commercialization. Through case studies, discussions, and critical analysis, students will develop a deeper understanding of ethical principles and their application in sports. The course aims to foster critical thinking and ethical decision-making skills, preparing students to navigate and address ethical challenges in their professional and personal lives.
The learning outcomes are as follows:
* Understand Ethical Theories: Students will be able to explain and apply major ethical theories and principles to various scenarios in sports.
* Analyse Ethical Dilemmas: Students will critically analyse real-world ethical dilemmas in sports, considering multiple perspectives and potential consequences.
* Evaluate Fair Play and Integrity: Students will assess the importance of fair play, integrity, and sportsmanship, and propose strategies to promote these values.
* Address Gender and Equality Issues: Students will explore issues related to gender equality and inclusivity in sports and develop informed viewpoints on promoting equality.
* Examine the Impact of Commercialization: Students will evaluate the ethical implications of commercialization in sports, including sponsorship, media influence, and financial pressures.
Successful candidates must be experienced and effective teachers, able to cater to a diverse student body and engage students in the subject matter so that they are fully prepared for their academic and professional journeys. Teaching is delivered in weekly three-hour blocks.
Key Responsibilities
* Teaching Ethical Issues in Sport.
* Preparation of teaching materials for the course.
* Providing updated syllabus and course pack/reader details by the required deadline.
* Offering academic advising either face-to-face or via email.
* Arranging/accompanying students on co-curricular trips and inviting guest speakers where appropriate.
* Setting and administering examinations and assessments – including exam question design, invigilation, and grading as required.
* Attendance at academic staff meetings (up to two per semester).
Requirements:
Required:
* Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
* Relevant teaching experience in higher education and proven teaching effectiveness.
* Excellent communication skills and responsiveness to students and administration.
Desirable:
* PhD in a relevant field (or nearing completion).
* Previous experience teaching within US higher education.
* Research experience, publications, and interests in contemporary social and cultural issues in the UK.
