Research Institute / Unit Information: The Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell (MLC) is located in an expanding science and innovation campus in Oxfordshire and is an internationally renowned centre at the forefront of genetics research. As the hub of the new National Mouse Genetics Network, the specialist facilities and capabilities of the MLC support a number of research groups across the UK to accelerate our understanding of human diseases, such as cancer, developmental disorders, and neurodegeneration.

Location: Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire
Salary: £36,196 - £42,526 pro-rata per annum (depending on skills and experience)

Full Time / Part Time: Part Time (Up to 20 hours)
Overall Purpose: To be part of the team supporting scientific staff at MRC Harwell for research contracts and agreements, technology transfer, industrial collaborations, strategic partnerships, and external funding applications. The team also provides advice in the requirements of research ethics and research governance policies.
Main Duties/Key Responsibilities:
1. Management of the research grants and contracts advisory service.
2. Provide and review drafts, negotiate research contracts and agreements for MRC Harwell.
3. Approve or recommend submission of all external funding applications.
4. Work with the Head of Biological Resources on the transfer of research materials.
5. Develop knowledge of the research portfolio of MRC Harwell.
6. Support due diligence and contractual issues.
7. Establish and maintain efficient working relationships with counterpart staff at other institutions.
Person Specification:
Education/Qualifications/Training Required:
* A degree-level qualification in law or business administration, or equivalent experience in commercial contract preparation.
Previous Work Experience Required:
* Relevant experience in contract drafting and management.
Knowledge and Experience:
* Good analytical ability and understanding of intellectual property rights.
Personal skills/Behaviours/Qualities:
* Very good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with staff at all levels.
Additional Information:
The post-holder will be expected to draft and negotiate contracts to ensure these are in the best interests of the MRC.
This role is a hybrid working role with hours to be covered over three (3) days with a minimum of one (1) day a week on site.
