Do you want to make a real difference in protecting the local environment? We're looking for a hydrologist to join our Hydrology Team in the East Midlands Area.
In this role you will collate, analyse and interpret hydrological information necessary for effective water resource management. Working closely with other hydrology team members, you will provide professional advice and technical assessments on hydrological issues to customers and partners. The work you do will inform decision making and contribute to protecting and improving the environment.
You will work closely with other team members to achieve the following:
1. Achieve our target for quality assuring river flow data
2. Monthly Water Situation Reports (monthly external customer report published on gov.uk)
3. Hydrological monitoring reports
4. Support the Area Drought Group with hydrological information including providing updates on river flows
5. Updating various data sets including rainfall and reservoir information
6. Monitor our team mailbox and provide customer responses to e-mails including requests for information, licence applications and data requests
Incident response remains a top priority for the Environment Agency. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Team
You will join a friendly and welcoming team of Hydrologists delivering work across the East Midlands Area. You will work in the Environment Agency's Trentside Office in Nottingham.
Our Team provides technical expertise and advice on a range of water resource management projects including the Water Framework Directive, Catchment Abstraction Management Strategies, water resource management plans, drought plans and determining water resources licences.
Experience/Skills Required
Through experience to date, you will be able to demonstrate the following:
1. A solid understanding of hydrological processes
2. A degree in hydrology/geography or another closely related subject
3. An in depth understanding of water resources
4. Understanding of hydrological concepts, data and techniques
5. Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
6. Ability to analyse complex hydrological problems and review modelling techniques
7. An understanding and experience of data collection, quality analysis and processing
8. Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
9. Excellent communication skills with the ability to turn technical detail into compelling arguments for the respective audience
Contact and Additional Information
This is an office-based location, with occasional requirements for infrequent travel for events such as face-to-face team meetings, site visits, environmental outcome days etc. There is a requirement to be in the office to deliver this role over 2-3 days per week. There is the option to work remotely over the other days, subject to the needs of the business.
