Join our multi-disciplinary Environment and Sustainability Team as an Assistant Ecologist, contributing to the ecological enhancement of the M25 DBFO, one of Europe’s busiest motorways and a significant network of diverse habitats supporting a wide range of species. This entry-level role is perfect for someone looking to kickstart their career in ecology, working on landscape improvement schemes and habitat enhancements.
* Extensive travel across the M25 network is required, with manual pool cars available for use.
* Some night work will be needed for ecological supervision and bat surveys.
* You’ll collaborate with internal teams such as Design, Project Management, and Service Delivery, and engage with external partners, including National Highways, landowners, and wildlife NGOs.
Principle Accountabilities:
1. To assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor on protected species surveys which can include planning surveys and accompanying them on field surveys.
2. To assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor on botanical surveys for UKHAB.
3. To assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor with developing BNG and biodiversity enhancement schemes.
4. To assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor on Invertebrate surveys.
5. To plan and carry out ecological pond surveys.
6. To act as Ecological Clerk of Work on-site supervising vegetation clearance.
7. Collaborate with our Design, Project Management and Service Delivery teams.
8. To assist with Environmental Impact Assessments.
9. Inputting data using Geological Information System (GIS).
10. To assist with Air quality tube collections.
11. To assist with ISO:14001:2014 environmental audits of offices/depots.
What You Will Bring:
* A degree or qualification in an environmental subject.
* Knowledge of protected species, botanical identification, and survey methods.
* A full UK driving licence for manual vehicles.
* Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) – desirable.
* Experience with the use of GIS – desirable.

Location:
This is a hybrid role designed to fully maximize team collaboration on the project, we therefore expect a minimum of 60% of your time to be spent at a CPS offices.
