Are you an experienced Ready Mixed Concrete Materials Testing Technician? Would you like the chance to work on multiple sites testing the quality of products? Do you enjoy being part of a team? We are currently looking for a Mobile Concrete Field Technician to join our friendly South Wales / Southwest ready-mix team based at Tarmac Stancombe Laboratory in Bristol. The role of Mobile Technician involves working in the laboratory as well as on-site as part of a team that supports operations covering sites at Bristol with backup to Llanwern, Coleford, and RMX plants in other areas. This role is accessible from Bristol, Newport, Chepstow, Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Weston Super Mare, Bridgwater, Bath, and the surrounding areas.
Main Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Technical Supervisor, the role of Mobile Concrete Field Technician will be responsible for:
1. Testing concrete cubes constructed from other mobile field technicians within the South West and Wales region using a mechanical crushing machine and inputting the results daily onto SAP.
2. Conducting sampling, testing, and curing of Ready-mix Concrete from Tarmac’s supplying concrete plants and customer sites to relevant British standards.
3. Completing all concrete cube information, curing records, and booking in forms accurately, ensuring all samples are returned to the main Bristol lab for curing within the specified period.
4. Monitoring the quality of materials for both internal and external customers while adhering to company Health and Safety procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Mobile Concrete Field Technician will have experience in the construction or aggregates sector and will possess knowledge of concrete, aggregate, and/or production. We welcome applications from candidates without experience as full training will be provided. This role is not a typical ‘lab coat’ laboratory type of role; it is a vital hands-on site-based role, wearing PPE and working in a small team closely supporting our operational concrete plants and customer sites.
Suitable candidates will:
1. Be hardworking and self-motivated.
2. Have excellent communication skills and be able to liaise with stakeholders of varying seniority levels.
3. Be accurate in their work and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
4. Identify potential risks/issues (training will be provided).
5. Work independently and collaborate as part of a wider team.
6. Be IT literate (laptop and mobile phone will be provided).
7. Possess good numerical aptitude (handling calculations/interpreting results).
8. Be flexible in their working approach.
9. Be Health and Safety conscious.
10. Have a full driving license for a manual geared van.
Here at Tarmac, we are working hard to create a dynamic and inclusive environment and it’s important that our people come from a variety of different backgrounds.
