What's involved with this role: Registered Manager - Children's Homes Reference no: Gloucestershire 5258050 Pay Rate: up to £56,050.00 per annum depending on experience 35-37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours This opening assignment is Permanent City: GLOUCESTER Enhanced DBS disclosure required Lead, manage and be accountable for a large team of 19 with residential staff, plus 2 ancillary staff, in the delivery of statutory duties to young people living at a substantial detached property. The children’s home is unique in that it comprises 8 beds, including 4 semi independent, self-contained flats for young people aged 16 in preparation for moving onto independence. There is also the potential to continue caring for young people as they reach 18yrs, if they are not yet ready to move into the community. The manager’s assessment of this aspect of service delivery will always need to be approved, on an individual basis (and in line with the resident’s needs) by Ofsted, the regulator. Key Responsibilities: Lead and provide day-to-day management of a larger than usual residential team, providing appropriate support, personal development review and performance management to ensure the delivery of high-quality services, the safety and well-being of staff and children and effective use of resources. Ensure the home is adequately staffed at all times and to ensure needs-led support is in place across the entire home, including for those young people who are living in semi independent flats. Maximising the capacity of the rota appropriately to ensure safe delivery of care to meet young people’s individualised needs across a wide age range which could span 13-18yrs and which includes formulating risk management strategies across both children’s and adult services. Support, promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people/adults and actively promote their health and educational needs to ensure they’re supported to meet their full potential as they progress through their journey into independence. Lead the recruitment, monitoring, training, retention and mentoring of staff as necessary taking responsibility to ensure staff undertake all training required for their role. Establish and participate in an on-call system as required. Ensure all staff receive monthly supervision which is reflective but provides clear direction and challenge to prevent drift and delay in the child’s journey, and as such, oversee and manage individual performance/under-performance as part of the supervision process. Lead and provide a culture of continuous professional development and evidence-based practice which spans children in care and care leaver services. Develop and maintain a team plan for the home which aligns to the bespoke Statement of Purpose and Function, ensures Quality Standards are adhered to, and which responds to ongoing developments to achieve outstanding inspection outcomes and any related requirements. Provide management oversight regarding interventions to meet young people’s individual needs, in tandem with the diverse needs of the group, which evidences understanding and management of risk, particularly regarding the age range and unique function of the home. Qualifications: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Care (or nearing completion/able to begin the programme) or an equivalent qualification e.g. Degree in Social Work (or equivalent). A full driving licence and willingness to drive. Knowledge: Knowledge of child protection procedures. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including The Children Act 1989, Children’s Homes Quality Standards, and related Regulations. Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of agencies providing services to children and families. Experience: Extensive experience of working in statutory social care settings with children and families. Substantial experience as a Registered Manager in a children’s residential setting - desirable Experience of managing a team of professionals which demonstrates inspirational leadership, reflective supervision, staff development and which achieves positive outcomes for service users. A proven track record of good interpersonal and communications skills. Skills & Abilities: Ability to provide effective leadership, demonstrating drive, enthusiasm, and commitment, with a positive approach to change. Ability to work inclusively, promoting harmony and consensus through diplomatic handing of disagreement and potential conflict. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with individuals and groups, both inside and outside the organisation and to build positive multi-agency working relationships. Ability to work with and manage data. Ability to work within timescales, to organise own workload and to manage time effectively with competing priorities. Able to respond to a changing pattern of demand at work which can be unpredictable and unplanned, and which may require the shifting of priorities. Ability to show initiative and take responsibility when necessary. Proficient in using IT systems and able to use electronic case recording systems.
