Producibility Design Engineer (Valves and CMV)

Location: Derby
The Valves and CMV Producibility team is responsible for the methods of manufacture for SSNA, Dreadnought, and Current Class products.
As the Design Engineer within the team, you will be accountable for developing improvements and embedding them within the method of manufacture in PCO and the supply chain. You will support production issues and implement continuous improvement (of tools, processes, and methods) across the wider team.
You will also provide support for through-life safety issues within the Valves and CMV products.
What you will be doing:
1. Produce robust design solutions that are insensitive to variation to address specified requirements.
2. Collaborate and communicate design solution information with task stakeholders.
3. Search for, capture, store, and re-use knowledge relating to design activity.
4. Understand and apply the commodity standards and create new standards where none exist.
5. Liaise with manufacturing and supply chain to actively integrate experience and knowledge from these areas.
6. Manage work in accordance with project cost, timescale, and quality targets.
7. Plan, project manage, and deliver technical packages/investigations in line with programme milestones within agreed cost, timescale, and quality requirements.
8. Promote, encourage, and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement (of tools, processes, and methods) across the wider team.
9. Support Supplier assessments, qualification, and improvement activities.
10. Define and deliver robust verification, Safety Justification, and qualification strategies and their outputs.
11. Lead the resolution and recovery from emergent issues.
12. Participate in Design support activities during production, build, maintenance, and decommissioning of components.

1. Experience as a design engineer operating across the product life cycle, undertaking design safety justification activities supporting manufacturing, integration, maintenance/refit activities, and dealing with operational issues.
2. Experience in research and development, analytical and test verification activities.
3. Knowledge and experience of product integrity/liability and justification.
4. Experience in the development of methods, standards, and processes.
5. Experience of managing work packages and people.
6. Bachelor's degree, Master's, or PhD in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.
