We currently have a vacancy for an Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Compliance Officer JOB PURPOSE The post holder will ensure the college is statutory compliant with health, safety and environmental legislation. The safety, health, environmental and quality compliance officer will promote a culture of operational excellence and continual improvement, ensuring college policies meet best practice. Post Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ)Compliance Officer Ref S32/25 Salary (£) Band 6 SCP 27-30, £37,035 to £39,513 per annum Unit Estates Reports to Head of Estates, Facilities and Health & Safety Location Campus to be confirmed but will be required to be available for work at any of the College sites as required. Total hours of work 36 hours per week. However, the post holder will be required to adopt a flexible approach including evening and weekend work. Work pattern Monday to Thursday 8.45am to 5.00pm and Friday 8.45am 3.30pm (45 minutes lunch each day). JOB PURPOSE The post holder will ensure the college is statutory compliant with health, safety and environmental legislation. The safety, health, environmental and quality compliance officer will promote a culture of operational excellence and continual improvement, ensuring college policies meet best practice. General Ensure college maintains statutory compliance in relation to health, safety and environmental legislation. Stay updated on the latest regulations, ACoPs, guidance and industry best practices and integrate same into college policies and Standard Operating Procedures. Collaborate with Schools / Units to promote a culture of continual improvement and operational excellence. Assist with employee SHEQ inductions as required. Assist with third-party SHEQ audits. Health & Safety Conduct regular site compliance audits, prepare non-compliance reports and formulate action plans. Monitor and report progress against non-compliance action plans. Monitor first aid / incident reports and liaise with line managers to ensure anyt necessary corrective action is completed Prepare first aid / incident statistics prior to Health & Safety committee meetings. Attend Health & Safety Committee meetings. Identify and evaluate potential hazards and assist line managers with strategies to mitigate risks. Advise line managers, if required, as they investigate incidents / accidents / near misses, establish root causes and implement corrective / preventative actions. Advise Head of Estates, Facilities and Health & Safety of any potential RIDDOR incidents. Carryout DSE assessments and provide training as required. Assist with the procurement of Health & Safety supplies and equipment e.g. first aid supplies, specialised furniture etc. and ensure relevant assets are maintained appropriately e.g. defibrillators. Assist with insurance related health and safety matters. Deputise for the Head of Estates, Facilities and Health & Safety in a Health and Safety capacity when required. Environmental Conduct regular site compliance audits, prepare non-compliance reports and formulate action plans. Monitor and report progress against non-compliance action plans. Assist with the development of sustainability / carbon emission reduction strategies. Assist with collating data and completion of new statutory compliance carbon emissions returns and compiling mitigation and adaptation reports. Assist with monitoring energy monitoring and targeting systems and report on same. Assist with environmental related environmental matters. Deputise for the Head of Estates, Facilities and Health & Safety in an Environmental capacity when required. Quality Drive initiatives to continually improve ISO systems. Assist with implementation of new ISO systems including college wide ISO 45001 certification. This is a post which is governed by The Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults (Northern Ireland) Order 2003. All Budget holders will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a balanced budget across their area of responsibility, including the delivery of any agreed cost improvement programmes. 10. Staff will be expected to participate in staff training and development activities to update and enhance their own knowledge, skills and professional competence needed to fulfil the role effectively. 11. Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ)Compliance Officer Essential Criteria A recognised Health and Safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification OR A Degree in environmental health A minimum of 2 years recent, post qualification SHEQ experience including the provision of advice/guidance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Desirable Criteria Experience working with ISO and 45001 standards. In-depth knowledge of relevant health and safety, environmental and quality regulations and standards.
