An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Facilities Engineering Team as an Energy Engineer. Plessey is looking for someone with the passion and ambition for carbon reduction and to represent the business at a global level. The role will be pivotal in ensuring Plessey meets its energy reduction targets collaborating with external advisors to continue and improve the net zero strategy.
The Energy Engineer will contribute to the success of Plessey’s Net-Zero strategy by:
* Undertaking regular energy audits of various types of major energy consuming tools and equipment and assessing their energy efficiency to identify opportunities for carbon reduction.
* Assessing technology options, technically and financially.
* Inputting technical requirements to specifications and other instructions.
* Ensuring efficient operation through review and analysis of relevant data.
The Energy Engineer will work in the Facilities department, collaborating directly with Facilities Engineers, CAD Engineer, and Projects Manager within the department. The role will also require collaboration with other Plessey departments; key internal stakeholders will include Environmental, Finance, Equipment Engineering, Purchasing, and Information Systems. The role also requires regular engagement with technology suppliers and installation sub-contractors.
The Energy Engineers’ role provides an opportunity to make a major contribution to carbon reduction by ensuring robust technologies and systems are implemented to improve energy performance. You will take a lead on energy saving initiatives, from initial research through to solution delivery.

The key responsibilities include:
* Analysis of large energy data sets from metering, sub-metering, and utility bills.
* Estimation of energy savings and cost benefit analysis / life-cycle cost analysis.
* Analysis of utilities such as boilers, chillers, CDA, compressors, and other large-scale energy consuming equipment.
* Support the BMS Engineer in building management including HVAC, BMS.
* Managing project requirements and constraints.
* Presenting concepts, findings, and proposals to internal audiences.
* Clear understanding of ESOS, Net Zero, CCL/CCA and SECR.
* Clear understanding of ISO50001 (desirable).
* Research and keep up to date with energy saving technology & systems improvements.
* Ensuring energy strategy aligns with financial strategy.
* Reporting monthly to management team and customer.
* Energy contract sourcing and negotiation in collaboration with purchasing and finance.
* Working with industry groups.
The minimum qualifications required are:
* A degree or equivalent in engineering or physical sciences.
* Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
* Establish and maintain mechanisms to measure environmental impact, sustainability, carbon footprint etc of the business's operations.
* Set appropriate KPI's, objectives and improvement initiatives to reduce environmental impact, increase sustainability, and positively affect carbon footprint.
* Ensure that elements of sustainability and environmental considerations are built into all new Capex requests and takes centre stage in decision making processes.
* Advocate sustainability throughout the business, raising awareness and understanding, and driving sustainable programmes.
* Experience in either similar role or technical role is desirable.
* Track record of delivering sustainability initiatives into businesses.
* Ability to challenge conventional methodology and deliver new ways of working in a culture of continuous improvement.
* Self-supporting, pro-active, results driven and accountable.
